Hey guys, just got a new shotgun... a Remington 870 Police Marine Magnum. It's supposed to have a capacity of 6 rounds (4+2) but the mag extension is only holding one. The follower is getting stuck at the dimple (see pic)

The other thing is I cannot get the coupling(?) removed to take the shotgun apart. The thing won't budge!!!

Any ideas?

I would replace that pos remington follower with a nice S&J one from one shot tactical. If that doesn't work you may need to have the extension sent back to Remington for replacement or boring.

The follower doesn't need to go any farther than that ring. The spring takes the rest of the space up.

Are you using 2 3/4 or 3" to check capacity?

Try a rubber strap wrench to get the nut off.

Thanks for the replies. After removing the spring and extension tube a couple more times, it's now holding 6! I guess the spring may have been binding up?

I'll get a rubber strap wrench and give it a go.

Pretty much the exact same experience with my 870P. Ended up wrapping the coupler with a thick rubber band to protect it, and then using a wrench to loosen it until I could do the rest by hand. For me, the follower was getting caught up on gap between the mag tube and the extension tube.

The way I eventually resolved it was by putting the coupler and the extension fully together first and then putting the 2 onto the mag tube. I needed to go back and forth between loosening the extension and tightening the coupler to make sure the coupler was fully on and the extension to magtube had the smallest gap possible.

I may be wrong but I though the dimples were the rivets and had to be removed ? Or is that just in the longer extension tubes

Think it's mixing terminology. Factory 870's with extensions shouldn't have the dimples. I think he's talking about the band where the mag tube clamp / front sling swivel is.

I've seen the springs get caught up in the joint where the ext meets the tube. The easy way to tell if this is the case is load as many round in the tube as you can and then loosen the ext a bit to see if you hear the spring pop fwd. If it does, it's getting hung up at the joint.
