New Acquisition - Steyr SSG 69 PII

Is that a reasonable price for these? Being GP and, all its hard to tell if that whats what.
Its hard to say whats reasonable these days, but I would say 2200-2700 depending on condition, features etc.for a Pi or pii. if you find one with the mcmillian stock or hs precision stock easily expect it to be 2500-3000k. The short barrelled piv version seem to get 2700-3000k pretty easy, and a match-sport versions 2800-3500 depending on condition. I would think a nice UIT version would be over 3k too.

There is one on G-Post for $3400 currently, with scope.
This Steyr Mannlicher SSG 69 rifle has the green stock but no iron sights on the barrel, at least no rear iron sight on the barrel. It also has the PII bolt handle and, I think, the heavy barrel.

So, it very much looks like a SSG 69 PII rifle - with a green stock. A nice variation.

I'm a sucker for those old style "Sniper Rifles" like the M40 and M40A1 and never owned a Steyr before so what the hell.
I have the same rifle, gives excellent results at 300 meter, a great rifle I like very much. When no time for reloading, I use Federal Gold Match 168 gr.
I have original mags , I don't use the 10 round mag. , if interested, I would sell it for $250

I wholeheartedly agree that it is a PII

I've switch over to AICS mags now. I'll be selling my bottom and magazine.

Caveat,I have not looked deeply into the variations of the SSG69, but I have a SSG69, green stock with matching mounts/Kahles 6x scope . It does not have have a bull barrel. It has both rear and front iron sights. I purchased it new in the early 1970s. It has the classic Steyr Mannlicher butter knife bolt handle. I bought a SSG PII shortlly after they came out. I recall paying about $2,000 for the rifle .I don't recall the cost of the palm stop-bipod spigot unit and Parker Hale bipod ,probably bought at same time as rifle..MY SSG69 PII has no iron sights. It has a heavy bull barrel and a large bolt handle. Forearm has a rail for hand stop and mounting the Parker Hale bipod. I used that rifle in a BCRA "sniper match back in the olden days. During that match one of my 10rd mags self destructed. The Parker Hale bipod is very heavy and with repeated shots ( and possibly my uneducated technique) had the problem of sliding off the rail at most inopportune times, dropping the barrel to the ground.
I didn't win that BCRA match, but even though I was a good 30years+ older than most of the shooters and didn't know what I was doing I was in the upper 30% of the field, a testament to the rifle. I like to think I coulda been a contender were it not for that damn bipod, having your bipod fall off really wrecks your shot follow through technique;)

If you are unsure of SSG 69 variants, they are all pretty much covered in that thread.

The Match and UIT were usually the true heavy barrelled variants.

As for the 10rd mags, the ‘old’ 10 rd mags have the same issues as the ‘old’ 5rd ones, which is that usually the clear back plate aged and cracked, and fell off or let the mag clip pop out. Steyr changed the plastics quite some time back, as they did with the original stocks, and they are much better now. Additionally there were solid black 10rd mags made about 20 years ago, there was a whole saga around them, they are the best by far. They are more a one piece extrusion, and demand a premium.

The problem with these rifles is that old age is not kind to the plastic. I had two over the years. Recently a P1 and a P11 decades ago. Both had cracks. The old 10 rnd mag broke along with the magwell. The recent P1 I had came with a brand new 10 mag. Guess what, broke after 4 shots fired and fell to the shooting table. Couldn't believe it, wtf. Anyway they are a nice rifle for nostalgia sake but I'm done with the platform. Here is the mag in question from two years ago. It looks like the non authorized version Dosing posted above but it came in the unopened box pictured. The seller I bought it from showed me the receipt from a vendor in Austria that specializes Steyr.

I lost a magazine in the same way. Locking tabs failed

First time I took the rifle to the range I took the new mag out of the cardboard box. Loaded ten rounds, inserted in the rifle fired 4 rounds, cycled the action for the fifth round and bonk, both taps broke and the mag was sitting on the bench:(

Oh I agree, stupidest idea Steyr did. With the AICS conversion though I have nothing to worry about. :D
