Hey all,

I just received this pristine Marstar batch 2007 Norc fully outfitted by Vltor today, it's a beaut.

Minty fresh, super clean, and tight as hell!.

I have two questions:

1. Is the scope fully supported in this position?. I positioned it a bit far back to get a proper eye relief in maximum magnification but I start to worry if this would have any adverse affects on the scope itself?

2. I was detail stripping it just now and I found a part stuck.

The retaining pin that holds the oprod spring guide in place is stuck.

Normally, you press the spring guide forward and then you can slide this retaining pin to the side and remove the guide and spring.

I've tried spraying winoil into it including gently tapping it with a small screwdriver and a rubber handled screwdriver as a hammer.

No avail.

It literally will not budge at all. Should I continue trying to tap it out or is there some voodoo I need to perform to get it out?.

Operating rod retaining pin, eh? Just like you said... take the slack (op rod spring)off and use a small flat bladed screw driver to pry it away from the center axis (or where it holds securely) to the outside. :D

Let us know if this works. Sometimes, it's nice to have this level of tension, no surprises when you are firing!!

Hey Barney, thank you for responding!

I have tried the screwdriver method, it seems to be in there pretty tight.

I have used quite a bit of force in an attempt to move it, but it refuses to budge. I am very afraid of breaking off the pin that sticks out.

I'll have another go at it once I feed the little guy :)
 
Okay, bust open the WD40 or Rust Check or a Creeping type of lube that will loosen that metal to metal fit. Let it work for a few hours or even overnight. Get back to us!

Don't be afraid to give the pin a little tap with a punch and hammer.Just don't wind up and wack it.And like the Great One says use some penetrating fluid on it and allow it to work.Take your time,it usually saves you money and headaches.
 
Remember that the 'norc pin is shorter than the USGI pin for which the stock was designed. To compensate for this without using the popsicle stick, devcon or JB weld fixes, some people have used super glue or clear nail polish to keep the pin from moving during cycling. You might want to try a few drops of acetone or nail polish remover on the pin. Worked for me:D
 
ummmmm ...... does the pin stick out of the receiver? as in a usgi pin? or does that end appear to have been ground off at some point to make it short like a norc pin? reason i ask is that a usgi pin is larger diameter but can be forced into the hole.... the result would be a stuck pin .... and i'm gonna guess a vltor stock is made to accept a usgi connector lock pin??

use a drift from the other side of the receiver, and lots of penetrating oil maybe?
 
Hey guys, thanks alot for the response!.

The pin fits flush as if it was made for it.

I was contacted by the previous owner and he has informed me that he usually puts a dab of purple (weaksauce) loctite to prevent, as Barney says, "surprises when you are firing" :)

A sharp tap with the appropriate sized punch and it came out.

In fact, it seemed like such a good idea, is there any harm in continuing this practice?.

as long as there is a non destructive ( :cool: ) way to remove the pin i don't see why not.

Thanks for the support guys, I really can't wait for my papers to come in on this one to go do some shooting.

The grip is a little narrow for my meathooks, I may run out to the local store to testfit some larger grips.

I'll post some better pics soon :)
 
The only problem with the purple loctite would be trying to strip the rifle if you don't have tools handy. That may never come up as a problem though. I would probably fill in the stock area in the stock and let it hold the pin in.

I got the rig as a complete setup as such, i am unaware of what they currently cost.

I think that Morpheus32 was selling some for $850 a piece (black and dark earth if memory serves me correct)

Hey Beer drinker, Yes, it is a bit weird, the lower half of the rail hinges off if needed, but I have a vertical grip I picked up for it that works well.

I ran out to P&D today to pick up a new grip as the Vltor one was abit too thin.
