New Alberta Elk Opportunity

Isn't the challenge of the hunt the most alluring part of hunting????
Harvesting a 400" bull elk from the inside Suffield block would not mean near as much as calling in a 300" bull in 400.
I use to have a desire to hunt these elk, but it has diminished immensely the last couple years.

I would have to agree. I don't think its for me either.

And I agree a 300" bull out of the forestry is a heck of a trophy. Shooting a semi domesticated elk from the truck window in the base, not so much.

No denying that there are some fantastic heads there though.

Yup. Completely agree. I took a 320 bull in 304 last year on opening day. Hadn't seen anything of that caliber all bow season so it was a bit of a shock when he cam out bugling. I wouldn't trade I'm for a 380 off the base any day.

That's a good size elk, especially in a 3 point, heavily hunted zone. Opening day in that zone is about a safe as the cull going on in the base.:ar15:

Filled 2 tags, but it wasn't like shooting fish in a barrel by all means, three full days. Lots of area to cover ( 2600sq/Km) and averaged around 40-50 Elk taken per day between all hunters. The sad part was that there were a lot of wounded animals that needed to be put down and all bulls were given to First Nations. 5 were given to one First Nations guy in one day and he never fired a shot. There were some very unethical hunters there trying 700-1000yard shots at the heard.
