New Ammo Now in Stock 7.62x54 and 7.62x25 Non-Corrosive

Probably not the right place to post this, but we have a super new place to shoot in NFLD., Complete Gunsmithing has a new 5 lane range opened here and it's a great place to shoot. It's the best range since Magnum in the nineties. It's about time that we Newfies had a real range again, Thank You Jason.

you are correct, it is not the right place. What made you think it was?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news... But I went out and finally tried some of this 54r and it does indeed seem to be corrosive... Left 2 of my mint bore SVT40 in the safe for the past week-ish thinking nothing of it and just pulled them out for a cleaning only the find the barrels in both are FULL OF FUZZY NASTY RUST..

Pretty dissapointed right now... I bought 2 cases of this stuff and just devalued both of my SVT's significantly. I don't think they are going to clean up very well.

I tested it myself as non-corrosive, and our staff have used it in quantity, so I really don't know what to tell you. Maybe send me a pic of the tin and we will check the lot numbers in case there was a mix up in the shipping. Also please send me your order number.

I'll do that tonight after work. This is the case from my first order.. Order #3973370

I also don't know what to tell you... Never had a problem with any other Norinco ammo that said it was non corrosive. And neither of these SVT40's have ever seen corrosive ammo since refurb as I've only owned them since June 10th when I received them from Weimajack (with spotless bores). Put about 20-30 rounds through each with this ammo and now they're both rusty as hell. I paid a premium for the 1940 Izhevsk too... :(

Hmmm, I just ordered a case of this 7.62X54R stuff myself from Cam Ammo, so I hope it WAS a mix up in shipping and the stuff we're supposed to get is NOT corrosive.
I have a pristine 1941 Tula, and I too have no intention to run corrosive stuff through it, even as religious about cleaning as I am.
Can Ammo, please advise that this indeed was a mix up, or else I have no use for this ammo.

Arcane303, hope you can scrub that stuff out of your Izhevsk OK. Sometimes the crud only gathers on the surface and you can use a good solvent with a bore brush to remove it with care and neutralize it, if you get right at it. And then oil it real good. Best of luck.
Cheers.

Yes, once we have the info, I will report here.

I also bought so really hoping it is not corrosive. I still have not tried so can not report. For the most part I dont care as long as it goes bang and hits target resonably accurate. However, I hate cleaning my gun on every use plus I have a few parts on my SVT that corrosive ammo has attacked before refurb. The gas port on these things are difficult to clean and I certainly do not want to add corrosion.

Thanks

I see I might not be the only one.
So i got a foot of water in my basement and my out of my 17 guns only my mosin PU sniper was the only one to have a rust problem. The barrel was like new but is now completetly rusted and is ruined. It was the only gun that shot this ammo and when I was done shooting I pulled a bore snake through the barrel twice then greased it up like I do to all my other rifles.
Is it possible it was the ammo?
It could of been the water/humidity but like I said out of 17 guns it was the only one affected and they were all treated the same way for storage.

Sh!tty

I came close to that reality. My sump pump wouldn't start up while the water was starting to ooze in. Did a quick assessment of the situation and the float sensor didn't trigger the pump??? Got it going and watched it all night with some tunes and a case of beer.

For corrosive ammo, you need to wash everything out with hot, soapy water or ammonia. Oil alone won't do it.

strange only use oil/s and havent had any gain rust over 1 year .....dont use water or soap on any of my rifles and only use corrosive for 7.62x39/7.62x54r

Any news or findings yet on if this stuff is truly the non-corrosive type or not? Not trying to be a pain, but I need to know whether I can safely use it in my SVT-40 or not without fear.
I see from the tracking info that my case of it is on its way to me already, so I'd like to know if it will be useful to me or not, or if I'm going to have to send it back or unload it somewhow. As opposed to my SKS, I have no plans to put corrosive stuff through my SVT, so I need to know what kind of ammo this really is. I'd really love to keep it for my SVT, so I'm crossing my fingers you can let us know it's the good stuff.
Thanks.

Both we and the factory have tested it as non-corrosive.

I put 125 rounds of this ammo couple days ago through the SVT40. I cleaned the rifle only with G96 oil and put away. Will check it over the next few days and post results.

Ballistol alone neutralizes the corrosive salts of the primers. It's not ideal, you should be using water or moose milk. However, if you're using just oil, Ballistol will solve these problems.
