New and have no idea what to buy

I have built several Rems and owned several more. I have no dislike for them at all. I am just annoyed at how far their product has fallen over the last decade. One of my fave rifles is a Rem Classic in 222Rem. THIS is what a Rem should be and it is truly a highlight of what this brand could/should be doing. Circa 1990's production.. Pity I was much poorer then and had to sell it to fund other projects - one of the few rifles I regret selling.

Savage on the other hand has been rapidly improving from their dark days during bankruptcy (and they were junkie then). They now offer a great, accurate, nice running product for a fair price. Plenty of features and options to suit a huge range of shooters. I believe they are the NA #1 bolt rifle by sales now.

Then you include all the things a DIY can enjoy with these rifles, and there is little to not like. Huge performance potential for the money spent/invested. Perfect? not in your life but pretty darn good vs anything in its price range. Add some TLC and quality parts like a Shilen Match prefit, and you are keeping up with some very pricey toys.

Ruger seems to have hit a nice balance with the new American. I am really enjoying this rifle and as a hunting rig, awesome even at double the price.

Tikka continues to be such a gem and so underrated. They cost more upfront but give so much out of the box. If I didn't want to tinker (except bedding), this would be my rifle. But since I can't leave anything alone, I play with Savages.

I am always trying new stuff cause you just never know what will be the next 'bestest' thing. Maybe it will be new nutted Rem?
