I'm looking at at 700 Remington 30-06 are for a 30-30. just wondering what you would recommend?

I just want to go deer hunting

Thanks for the help

Provided you can shoot it well, a .30-06 is a fine deer rifle and if you decide to hunt moose it will do well for that too.

The .30-30 is a decent deer rifle for some conditions; I will never be without one. However, if shots will be past about 175 yards or so, the .30-06 is a better choice.

'looky's recommendations are right on the money, as always. I especially like the 7mm-08 Rem.

Go with the 308 win as mentioned as it is pretty much the twin to the 06 minus the recoil! The only big difference between the two would be when your getting into the heavier bullets and last time I looked you don't really need a 200gr pill to down any of the deer spices in and including moose or elk.

Geeeeeeeezzzzzz, this again! Let the OP have some fun with a pre '64 94 30-30, please, please & please. The 30-06 may ruin him with a flinch! :p. He'll come back to the drawing board later.............

A .30-30 is enough for hunting deer, and even bigger animals if you hunt well enough, i.e. you get close enough. (Every cartridge is good enough within its "effective range," e.g. a .22 rimfire will kill a grizzly if you can consistently get close enough and shoot well enough to put the bullet through the eye socket into the brain, but I would not advise it.) The .30-06 is more versatile because it is effective at longer ranges, if you can shoot well enough at longer ranges.
