Hi everyone.
Im fairly new to shooting, ive shoot my friend r700 and ive decided its time to grab my self a new toy.

Im thinking about the R700 sps but Im not too sure what to get for a scope.
Anyone got any ideas?

Sound like You know your Goal, I say that the Bushnell 3200 in 10fix would be not a bad choice, if you can find one of those Super Sniper 10X that be great but they don't sell to Canadian, So that would be my choice to start out, but then just my opinion, There is many great valuable scope out there, any bushnell 3-9X40mm would also make a great choice for starter.

Money isnt really a problem. Ofcourse I dont want to spend a stupid amout right now since im not that good quite yet.

I was thinking just dicking around with my buds and some small comps. ill see how it goes.

Understand that investing in good optics is money VERY well spent. NOBODY ever regretted spending money on good glass with good internal workings (Your rifle is only as accurate as your scope). Furthermore, there is no substitute for magnification. Get a scope withthe capabilites of shooting any future distance, and I guarantee you will keep it a lifetime. Buyomg cheap scopes is a waste of time, money and ammunition.

Consider the Sightron 8-36X, the Leupold 8.5-25, the Nightforce 12-42X. These are great scopes, and don't freak at the prices... rifles are like power boats: The scope is like the motor.

If money is no object then bend over and get Schmidt and Bender. Easy resale due to the huge following of like-minded individuals.

Shmidt and Bender isn't the best just cause it is the most expensive. I would rather a NightForce unless I wanted FFP. Then I would look at the extra 1500 for the S&B.

That said I am a big fan of the Bushnell 4200 series.
The 6-24x50 30mm with tactical turret knobs would be great.

Thats why I advised him to bend over:eek: He did say money was not a problem!

JJ.... If money is no object then buy mine. You,ll need a scope,, pref. a N/F 12-42 like what was on it and you,ll be shooting bullseyes in no time. If you really wanna impress your buddys on how fast you,ve learned i'll shoot it for you and you can say you did it, laff.
Kidding aside, we have an Intro to long range class once a month and we use the Factory savage .223's with a fixed Bushnell 10X scope that has target turrets. It's simple, it's solid and it shoots. 1-7 twist rate on the barrell would let you load heavier bullets for when you want to move farther away from the target. For now get lots of trigger time at 100 till your confident on you abilities. Suggest also learning to reload, it'll give you the chance to shoot more for the same money and you can learn what it takes to really make your rifle shoot.

I have a 24X sightron with target dot, Real nice and Clear scope also as the Turrets
Fixed 24X is pretty much useless outside a shooting range, all depends what you are after.

Does anyone know about Zeiss or Leica glass

No idea about Leica riflescopes but Zeiss makes excellent scopes, the Conquest line is aexcellent and if money is no object then the higher end models are good investments, but then you are into the Swaro and S&B amongst others, my personal favorite is the S&B of which I own a few, I have never regretted buying them and have never resold one after having it on my rifles that tells you something, I have bought and sold all kinds of other brands but my S&B's have stayed with me. If you are trying out the sport I would also agree with others that the 10X Bushnell is a good buy and you will get most of your money back when and if you decide to upgrade, it's a win win situation.
bigbull
