Went to Target Sports with the wife and kids and have found a new family hobby. I used to shoot a lifetime ago in cadets and the reserves, and felt comfortable right away. But, the lil lady still outshot me.
Taking their next course and already thinking about a Glock 34 and Beretta CX4 Storm.

Any advice. I would like a handgun and carbine both with 9mm if possible.

The Beretta Shadow is a lot of fun with little kickback. Quite pricey though. I would suggest a Glock 17 instead of the 34 and add an Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit. Great for the kids when shooting .22s.
So light and cheap to shot.
My seven year old would shoot all day if I let him.
I don't know how old your kids are, but Marlin makes a great little .22 semi-auto rifle with a 7 round mag called the Popoose. With a red dot you can hit anything.
I belong to The Grange. Most members are happy to offer a chance to try out their firearms. I'd say try some different guns out to give you an idea what would meet your needs.

Hello and welcome. About twenty years ago, Marlin made a semi-auto "Camp Carbine" in 9mm Para. Used S&W magazines from the 39/59 series. If you go on-line maybe you can find one of those. I used to own one, back then, and it was a fun gun to shoot. Other than that, maybe you can find a Rossi lever-action that fires .357 and get a matching revolver (there are semi-autos, but they're hard to find and very pricey when you do). Also, there are the top units (can't remember the maker -- I'm old) that replace the slide, barrel and spring, to make a carbine out of the frame of a Government Model 1911. Since they aren't frames themselves, they aren't legally guns, and they're not regulated. Good luck with it. And may your "lil lady" continue to outshoot you.

Welcome aboard, instead of getting a conversion kit, get a Ruger mk3 for a similar price, 2 guns are better than 1.

Thanx for the warm welcome and advice. After reading the forums I am considering getting a 22 handgun in addition to a Glock.

There seems to be a considerable spread (about$100) in the price of a Glock 17. Can anyone explain the price variance?

If you want a carbine the Beretta is a good one. You can get a Beretta 92 or CX4 pistol and use the same magazines in the carbine. Just make sure you get the right carbine - or the appropriate conversion kit.
