New Apex Optics from Calgary

Got my Apex Hunter the other day. Quite a nice scope. Mounted it on my Christensen Arms Mesa in 300 win mag with some DNZ game reaper one piece rings. Super easy to zero the scope and reset the turrets to zero. Scope functions are smooth and the illuminated reticle is daylight bright. Glass quality is great.

Well, it's been over 6 months since I last asked about it - anyone mount an Edge 1-10x24 riflescope yet?

I'm thinking about saving up over the course of a the year for one around Christmas. They didn't have a booth at TACCOM 2023 as I was hoping, so I couldn't look at a demo model (I only saw their precision scopes in 2022).

So what's the deal with these?
Not made in Canada?
Nothing in stock, so built to order, basically funding a dude in his basement who buys scopes from Japan?
Seems sketchy.

Look at some of the Riton scope models, they appear the same as some of the apex scopes, yet cost significantly more. Why? the red accents. Nothing Canadian about Apex. Both are built by JOL spend your money elsewhere

It's surprising that so few people even post about Apex scopes. Good or bad. There were quite a few of us on the first Rival pre-order. And it seemed like alot were getting the hunter and 1-10 scopes.
The owner of Apex (Envitro?) posted that the Rival was different than the Riton X7, but offered no details. So maybe the internals are different/better? The x7 is a grenade that lots of people have posted on, and there are very few/no negative Apex posts that I can find. But maybe 95% of their scopes are in sponsored shooters' hands? No idea

Overall my Rival has been good. The glass is clearer than the Ares ETR, but not quite as sharp as the XRS 2. I know the ATRS guys were claiming it had better glass than the NX8, but I have no time behind that scope.
Tracking is excellent, turrets are OK. Better feeling than the sub-$2k Athlons, gen 2 PST, Javelin etc, but I'm not a fan of the 15 mils/rev. Looks like the new ones can be had in 10 for an extra $100.
Glass wise there's very little CA, and it's pretty sharp edge to edge. The eyebox gets a bit tight past ~23x, but it's useable all the way to 32x. The zoom and parallax knows are smooth but took a little effort out of the box.
For the $1900 I paid I'm happy with it. Now that they're $2400-2500 I'd have a hard time choosing a Rival over a $2100 LOW-made Cronus.

All I know is that I looked through some of their scopes at TACCOM 2022 and I liked their optical clarity, eyebox and general quality of construction. They told me without me having to dig or pry that the optics were made in Japan, so it wasn't like they were claiming they were made in Canada and covering it up or something.

Where possible, I'd rather money for something, even if it's being resold, to go into the hands of a Canadian when I have the option. For me, it's nice to be able to say, "this piece or part was sourced from a Canadian company."

Excellent info, @unholysavage, thanks for your insight.

They had a booth last week at the Toronto Sportsmen's Show. Was impressed by their lineup. If I had the budget, I would get the THE RIVAL 4-32x56. Shoot's Choice was their preferred dealer at the show, and they were going for $2400 flat, no Tax. I ended up buying a Scorpion TARGET MASTER RANGE FFP 5-25X56 from the show under $750.

Would be nice if they weren't avoiding having their scopes 3rd party drop tested. Maven has gotten on board with building and testing scopes for zero retention like NF and trijicon has been doing for a long time and they cant keep their rs 1.2 in stock to save them. If apex were proved reliable it would go a long way to people giving them a shot. Wouldnt hurt if they made a good reitcle for use on low power as well
