New AR and opinions on red dots

Vortex is getting a bashing on this one. I have two different Vortex optics and haven't had any issues. I see lots of Aimpoint, and Trijicon endorsements, which make good AR optics. I think it's all down to how much you want to spend. Trijicon optics are pricey as are the units from Elcan. I would be more than happy to put a C79 on my personal AR so I see the same sight picture as I do when using the C7/8's at work, but at $1800. new, I can't justify the expense. If I see one second hand for $800 I would consider it. If money is no object and you want an optic you can abuse and use in all conditions then Trijicon and Elcan are solid. If you are on a budget then Vortex, Burris, Lucid, etc make some decent unit. I haven't abused my Vortex Spitfire like I have Elcan C79's on the C7 and C8's I have used, so I can't speak to it's all conditions reliability, but it has been good for range use. Have I been any help at all...LOL!
