New Arrivals from Ex Yugoslavian Army Stocks

I saw a couple at an LGS today from the tradex batch. Fair warning the are not all unissued. One looked great, the other was pretty beat up, but was matching with a nice bore. It had a couple stock repairs and a big tang crack though.

Fingers crossed I get a good one ?!?

Last I checked Weimarjack still had a nice one left on the EE (hand select) and P&S Militaria has listed some from this batch.

I bought one from Weimajack after I saw they were sold out here (after I dragged my feet). Be careful as there are some being sold at LGS and other sponsors that are definitely not "Excellent Condition" like this batch. Not a clue who originally brought these in, but if you can find one from the "Exc condition" batch, you've got a real winner for the price paid.

Still don't see many pics of the rifles from this batch, very interested to see what they look like and if all numbers are matching.

I did buy a shooter grade M48 at a big box store that I was very pleased with after I cleaned her up. Glad I bought 2 bayonets on Ebay as I acquired another M48, which I'll get pretty soon.

Don't know where this batch came from but there were a lot of these "unissued, As New" M48, M48A's that were floating around a couple years ago in the USA.
 
The ones I saw today were from tradex. 100%. One was excellent, the other was a "good" at best. Metal was fine but the cracked and repaired stock seriously hurt its condition. I even saw the box, it was still encased in Cosmo, etc.

My guess is some percentage of these guns as as new, others are of lesser condition. All were the same price.
 
Anyone buy the M57 and have pics? I had a TT-33 and really disliked the ergonomics of the grip... too thin and mine had bluing missing (making it kind of abrasive) which used to scrape up the webbing on my hand. I like the round and the idea of the pistol. Might buy one if I can find a wraparound grip or something like this guy has (even though it doesn't look that good) as it would make it thicker for me.

I'll start off by saying I'm no expert on anything, but this is BY FAR the greasiest mil-surp I've ever bought! It's not greasy either, I should stop saying that, it's like glue. Super glue, that's semi-malleable. That paper that's stuck to the end of the stock I suspect is now part of the rifle! Seriously though, I'm sure if I cleaned it up it'd be a brand new gun! Numbers matching, the bluing is superb, the grain on the stock is beautiful, honestly the couple pictures don't do the stock any justice at all. The only thing I could see that was a little marked was the bottom of the mag. I forgot to take a picture of the sling and ammo pouch, but they're nothing fancy, definitely used. All in all, I'm very happy I jumped on these!

Now I'm faced with a serious problem. I bought this with the intention of having a really nice shooter, but it's almost too nice! I shoot my guns, always have, but this may end up being my first "collectable". Hmmmmm....... :HFU:

Great looking gun. Now, markings people, if anyone is interested;
Four Cyrillic letters is actually FNRJ and it means Federativna Narodna Republika Jugoslavija (Federative Peoples Republic of Yugoslavia). That was the first name post war Yugoslavia had before changing it to SFRJ (Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia). The second marking is Preduzece 44, meaning Enterprise 44 or Company 44, which was one of the names Zastava factory had after the war. The crest; 6 torches making unified flame represents 6 provinces (republics) former Yugoslavia consisted of (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Hertzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia). The date, November 29th 1943 represents the time Communist led Partisan guerrilla had their second congress in liberated part of the country and proclaimed themselves to be the new government. Yes Yugoslavia constantly had parts of the country briefly liberated from Nazis. Germans would retake the area and Yugoslavs would liberate another part. Hitler actually had to withdrew forces from Eastern front to deal with Partisans. There, a little bit of history that somewhat relates to this rifle.

Just got my M 48 today!

So I just received my Yugo Mauser today. I had specifically requested an M 48, because I liked the cleaner and more finished look of the milled parts. Tradex delivered on my request, and I really appreciate it! The rifle is in a nice elm wood stock. The numbers all match, and the serial number is on the stock of the rifle as well. I would definitely say that this rifle is NOT unissued, however it is in excellent shape. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the receiver has a deep plum colour to it, which from my understanding is due to the refurbishment process. There are also a few minor nicks in the stock and some scuffing on the butt plate. The transparent looking line on the butt is just some plastic wrap, not a large dent haha. That being said though, it is in awesome shape and I am more than happy with it even though its probably been refurbished at some time. It makes me wonder where, when and to whom this rifle may have been issued!

I'm looking forward to seeing what other peoples rifles look like. Now I just need a bayonet, some strippers clips and some 8x57 reloading dies :cool:

Did they make (or refurb) these with laminate stocks? Looks like an elm stock with a lot of figure to me (and a beautiful specimen)... could be wrong though.

That's a nice rifle that I would be proud to own. #'s matching, I think you also did extremely well in the surplus roulette!
