Hi guys. Heard news about the new rifle AK-12 (not saiga-12). I dont think it's using the same system of an AK-47. Just look at this.

Do you guys think it will be legal in Canada?

Not necessarily. A derivative is not the same as a variant. The dictionary definition of variant is (paraphrasing) essentially a slight degree of difference from the original whereas a derivative could be quite different.

If a blowback operating .22 that looks vaguely like an AK can be a variant than I am 99% sure that anything that calls itself a derivative will definitley be considered a variant.

Didn't they ducktape some AR style gun together with sticks, use some pieces of wood, only get the thing to sort of function for one shot and call it an AR variant as well?

The RCMP would consider every gun in Canada to be an AK 'variant' if they thought they could get away with it.

You have clearly NOT been paying attention to CDN firearms laws and what the RCMP considers to be a variant.

On numerous occasions, firearms that share not a single component part, operate in a completely different manner and have not a single thing in common with a named prohibit except the most basic cosmetic resemblance have been classified as a variant and prohibited.

The AK-12 is essentially a product improved AK and people are really asking/arguing that this thing might be allowed into the country? Give your collective heads a shake gentlemen.

Anyone else totally cringe while watching that guy in the video from 0:24 to 0:34 working on the rifle? Get that man away from the tools and out of the factory for crying out loud LOL

Well if an HK-416 use nearly the same type of work (piston) than an AK but not looking the same is legal then the AK-12 is using the same type of work (piston) but it's not looking the same as an AK so it's legal in semi-auto then.

Just looking at this image, I think it looks like a variant.

Have you tried to work when someone has a camera on you?

The firearm of the design commonly known as the AK-47 rifle, and any variant or modified version of it except for the Valmet Hunter, the Valmet Hunter Auto and the Valmet M78 rifles, but including the:

Quoted from the RCMP website.

Only way we can possibly get an AK is if Kalashnikov buys the rights to the Valmet name and markets it as such.
