Hi,
I recently started reloading for a 300 wsm I have found a real accurate load with 64 grains of IMR4350 175 Barnes LRX,I bought the powder from a buddy he had it
since 94 according to the date on it,my question is do I have to change my load if I buy new IMR 4350 and is it (temperature sensitive) the reason why I am asking is
I zeroed my gun perfectly one day,shot it over chrony my average was 2975 which I was told average FPS for 300wsm no signs of pressure,I was shooting out too
750 yards and my dial called for 15 MOA, but hitting right height with only 14 MOA so 1 MOA less and at that calculation it was shooting 3093 FPS so that's why I am asking.....Any info would be apprieciated.. thanx,,Sorry if this is not the right place for this kind of question...
 
And, yeah. You will have to start and develop a new load if you buy a new bunch of powder. His 1994 powder has probably changed slightly on the shelf in 20 years - note I said slightly, not necessarily dangerously - and a new lot may have a slightly different pressure curve. if both slight differences cancel, all will be well. If they are additive, you may tippy toe into high pressures, and certainly into larger groups! (Or, if the gods are smiling, into even smaller groups!!!)
 
powder varies from lot to lot so the answer is yes
the good part is you only need to start a bit lower than your current load and work it up.
 
Have you tested the tracking of your scope? The chances of a scope being off 1 MOA on 15 adjusted is quite high. Another is mirage. A bit of boiling mirage will change your elevation because the target isn't where you think it is. I frequently see a rifle needing one MOA or more less come-up between a cool morning and the afternoon at the 7-800 yard targets. Come evening it will shoot to the chart again. Wind picks up a bit, the mirage flatlines and the elevation error to refraction is diminished or eliminated. I've found the best way to deal with it to is to hit one's head against a big rock.
