Hey everyone,

Has anyone tried the new 30-30 barnes X (.308) 150gr hollow point?
Anyone know if we can get in canada yet?

Question #2, does anyone have some good suggestions for a 30-30 load on a 150 to 170 gr bullet?

Any info appreiciated,

thanks.

I used the older X bullets in 30-30 (165 gr flat nose) and they had a 6 petal expansion, it was pretty cool. Not sure if the new TSX 30-30 bullet will have that though

powders like H4895, RL15, Varget, IMR 4064, IMR 3031, all will work well in the 30-30 wcf

150 grain silvertip, if you can find some for reloading that is.
(30 grains of IMR3031)
Winchester for some ungodly reason does not offer this choice as a seperate reloading component anymore.

Used this bullet last year to down a deer, and boy it did some wicked damage in his chest area.....plus deer dead right there in his tracks!

I use 35 gr Varget behind a 150 grain Barnes X. This is a compressed load which is safe in my Marlin, but you should work up. Shoots under and inch in my rifle at 100 yds.

I have a small stash of the 150gr Silvertips,I found them excellent on deer if you drop the bullet into the boiler room, but don't hit the front shoulders, expands like a HP.DAN>>>

I used the early 160 grain Barnes X and was disapointed.
It was terribly inaccurate in my rifle. 12" at 100 yards in a rifle that normaly goes 2 to 2.5".
I used it for close range bush shooting, and found that close up like that, it lost it's petals and had pencil like exit holes.

That said, I understand that Barnes was 'enlightenned' by other consumers with the same problems as mine, and that the new 150 grain is supposed to have solved all these issues.
Good luck.
I don't think I'll ever bother with another premium bullet in the 30-30. At 30-30 velocities, the standard bullets work fine
