new barrel for 858

Hey guys, first post: so looking at buying a cz858 from a buddy and he mentioned a pitted barrel. Its a good deal and I cant pass up the gun. So how hard is it to buy a new barrel, how much will it cost or is it even worth getting one?

Not many spare barrels around, minor pitting isn't an issue in a cz, major is.

Your problem is rebarreling is not a simple task on a CZ.

From what I understand the barrels are press fitted, so not sure what is involved in rebarreling, but the topic has come up and from what I remember not worth it.

Corrosive is fine to use if your clean it when you get home from the range.

Getting a new barrel will not be worth it in the end seeing as great condition ones sell for about $600 used and a new one still being under $700. Question comes down to how bad it is?

Don't spend the extra $$$ on non corrosive. Read some stickies, watch some YouTube vids. 858 is so easy to field strip and clean. Once you got a cleaning practice that works for you it takes no time at all.

It fires straight"......still worth getting it???? and i was just curious about the ammo, yea surplus ammo is half the price as non corrosive(just wondering if it was double the time in labour). I was just wondering if it made a huuge difference. Ive watched some tutorials and cleaning it doesnt seem too hard, thanx for all the info

minor pitting will just cause quicker copper fouling and make cleaning take longer. The rifle will start to degrade in accuracy a little sooner but this is negligible IMO on a rifle like the 858. As for ammo, non-corrosive is cleaner and usually more accurate so its up to you if its worth it or not. If you can get the rifle for cheap then you might as well, sounds like its not that bad.

That depends on the price... I wouldn't pay much more than $300 for one with a moderately pitted bore. If the pitting is very light, as you would see with most milsurps (so bore is still in good condition), I might go for $400, but it depends. His asking price and pics would help.
