Is this possible? The gun functions perfectly, but shoots a pie plate at 100 yards or worse. Chambered in 30-30. I think it is a 1922 model. Gonna try a few different factory loads and see what it will do. Maybe it's the open sights? Not sure how accurate it could be at that distance.

Don't waste your money on a bunch of different factory loads. In my experience if one .30/30 load shoots badly in a 94, they all will. Maybe a bad crown on the barrel or damage from cleaning the bore from the muzzle. What does the bore look like? Is the rifling sharp and well defined or rounded and dull? Maybe badly fouled, a good scrubbing with JB Bore Paste might help. Unless neglected or abused .30/30 barrels don't usually get shot out.

Looky..Looky...Looky. Ye done strikes again.:)

As Senior Webb suggests, a thorough inspection is needed, with particular notice of the crown.
Not a big deal to re-touch the crown if all else checks out ok.

Well - With short radius buckhorn sights, the barrel may not be the limitation. Do a visual with a bore light. Sure the barrel can be replaced, but it will be expensive (~500$). Additionally, it will ruin any potential collectability of the gun. If the gun is stock, and in good shape, its already worth a fair amount of coin. Think very carefully about doing anything to the gun - its completely functional as is!

rebore to .32 WS if whats his name somewhere in Alberta is still doing it would be about the cheapest option, but I'd put a WTB ad in the EE.

A pie plate at 100 will do for deer. 94's aren't target rifles. It will not shoot MOA. Two or 3 inches is likely as good as it'll ever get.
Senior Webb? You calling him old? snicker. Do what he says just the same.

if you try Numrich arms they sell a 26" octaganol barrel for the 30 wcf. You would need to find someone to import it for you though
Have you tried cast bullets?

I know of a 94 with a chainsaw file stuck in it. Buddy had a patch come off in there, then tried a saw file to get it out, maybe 2, and now the barrel is plugged.

I never thought of re-barreling it, but now I'll check out these leads too. Thanks OP

^Yeah I know.

It was 30 some years ago, he was only 12 or so when he learned that lesson the hard way. Haha, he almost stopped telling me the story just from the look I was giving him as he got to the chainsaw file part! lol
