I m going to rebarrel my 22 250 and I d kind of like to buy canadian. I want to shoot the 70 gr barnes tsx. So im thinking the 1:9 twist and I like the idea of the 3 lands instead of 6 as id like to ai the chamber and the extra fire will add to throat erosion. my questions are
1 who makes lapped match barrels in canada
2 will they make them with 3 grooves
3 is 1:9 to fast of a twist if i want to shoot 50-55 gr bullets
4 what are your thoughts on fluting
5 what are your thoughts on the over all project
Thanx

1 Gaillard is one maker

2 not that I know of

3 50-55's work better with a 12 twist

4 absolute waste of money

5 22-250AI is a hot round, same loading data as the .220 Swift. What rifle are you building and weight of barrel?

maybe some one knows some barrel makers in canada and could tell me how to get in touch with them and they could answer my questions

Ted Gaillard 306 752-3769

He does not make 3 groove.

the gun is a rem 700vs I would get another heavy barrel
that would match the one i have the heat of the round is why i want the 3 grooves so the throat doesnt burn up as fast also would the 1:9 twist spin the jacket off of the 53 gr bullets or do they just suck for pin point accuracy
Daniel

I've got to call Ted tomorrow. If you like pass on your info and I'll pass it on to him!

Joe

Sounds good. I thought I would offer since I'll be chatting as well. Regards, Joe

Gaillard makes a 1:10" .224 bbl. I have one on my .223AI for heavier bullets, 63 gr and up.

The .223AI is a very good alternative to the 22/250.

I like it! :)

The boltface doesn't work for that.......

I would say the .22 BR would be a viable option. Much better accuracy than the bigger .22's and still with very high velocity.

Look into the specs on it.....

You may want to consider gain twist to help keep throat erosion slowed down
we have been using gain twist barrels on several of the "hot" cartidges with great success. Also cut rifling can be applied in 3 groove, just as easily as 6 can

well rick youll be the man to put it together but i just dont want to hold you up on my lapua so when thats done the 250 will be the next project just looking into some options
Daniel
PS SuperCub I already have a .223 and I think my 250 kicks its ass as is.granted its not improved but neither is my 250

See if you can get on Ron Smith's list for a gain twist barrel. We have had very good results with this type of barrel in 6.5 WSM wildcats. Accuraccy has fallen off after a couple of thousand 3000+ fps 140 grainers, but the rifle with the high round count is still good enough for hunting now that it has opened up to 1 MOA. Originally both would hold somewhere around .6-.7 MOA at 1 km.

I never heard anything like that about ted and I don't beleive these allegations to be true I have bought several barrels from ted and every one of them were perfect shooters I do a lot of benchrest shooting and I barrel my own guns his barrels are match quality i also spoke with ted many times he never sounded to be under the influence.
There was one time ted made a barrel for a guy who brought it to a smith to get the work done the gun didn't shoot so they took the barrel of the receiver sent it back to ted ,Ted took the barrel cut of the nonconcentric chamber that had been done rechambered it put it on one of his own guns fired a bunch of shots on a target that went into the same tiny cluster and mailed the target back to the guy>

destroyer is a total #### and people like him shouldnt be allowed to shoot cuz he probably cant and ive seen a few to many posts that suck and are uncalled for kick his a$$ off we dont need his kind
he must be symbol boys bro

This guy (Destroyer)is a real performer. I should post some of the PMs I received but then, I think everyone has already had enough from this character. Perhaps he just woke up this morning in a bad mood.

Apparently he can be found in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Rick at Alberta Tactical seems to be an acquaintance of his. Perhaps Rick can provide some information for the rest of forum membership.

All I am prepared to say is that I am building him a rifle, an EXPENSIVE rifle. And will not turn away his money, I am NOT his keeper any more than anyone else here.
I do not approve of his forum performance at all.
pm to Joe
