New barrel on a 700 338 Lapua

This should make it perform better... I can't believe the factory length of less than 24 inches (without brake) performed that well.

A new tube almost 29 inches (without brake) slightly heavier and a match chamber should do well.

Hopefully the owner will post results later.

Top barrel and lug are factory 700, below that is the new 30 inch overall custom barrel with a Holland lug and brake on a trued action.

Was the factory action close to being true?

I took apart a Sendero in 300 RUM, only 1 lug contacted and there was a depression in the bolt face. Not bad on a $1100 rifle.

What do you use to put the caliber on the barrel? It looks stamped on, but I could be wrong.

It is a Pac-Nor barrel.

The action was out a little but not really bad.

I stamp the barrel using hand stamps.

My labour for truing 700's is $150, indexing the brake $100, fitting, chambering, crowning, lightly turning the muzzle taper to make it true with the bore $275. Customers normally supply all the parts.

It was also an incredibly quick turnaround. Granted, all the components were supplied. I won't say how quick to avoid other's from expecting the same, in case it was due to timing and/or circumstance, but a month is pretty much unheard of, or at least other 'smiths have told me so.

Timing IS everything in most shops.
I am normally 6 to 8 months behind, but sometimes when all the parts are in hand can get a rifle out in short order
Recently built a 308 for a fellow Nut in record time of under 1 month.
It is all in the timing, sometimes a guy gets lucky.
