New barrel on old Wingmaster?

I was wondering:

Can you put a new rem barrel on an old wingmaster that doesn't have the ball-detent on the magazine band?

If so, is there anything you need to do to help keep the nut on?

It should be fine. I have an new 18" bbl on my older wingmaster, no problems.

No problems, you could have a 'smith add a ball detent to your new barrel or simply pick up the mag cap and plastic doo hicky off of an express.

I was using the old mag cap with my new barrel and it was always coming loose after a half box of trap loads, so I put on an Express mag cap and it's been all gravy since.
