New Bedding Material

I use paste wax. Kiwi would work. Purpose marketed mould releases work. Make sure you get full coverage of all areas where adhesion of the bedding compound is undesirable.
If you use a wax, apply a thin even coating. You don't want chunks and lumps.

I use Kiwi as well, since my last can of Johnson's Paste Wax ran out. Krylon Mould Release is purpose made for such things and goes on evenly/thin.

Suggestion, pour boiling water over the area on the receiver/barrel you are going to apply the release agent to. It helps to spread the paste wax more uniformly.

I use Kiwi as well,...

That would have to be the bolt-action tin now, of course, since the semi-auto one was banned by OIC.

If you ran out of Johnson's PW, you must have bought it a very long time ago ot used it to polish everything in the house. Our old Ace Hardware here (now a quasi-RONA) carried it for a while but I think I got mine at Home Depot in Bellingham on one of my regular trips.

Good tip about heating the metal to avoid lumps. :)

Princess Auto used to carry something very similar but it was in a round plastic tube. There was a core of one material with an outer layer around it. Cost was around $5C. One tube would do four rifles.

It was good stuff and stands up very well as a bedding material.

I only have one tube left and it appears Princess Auto no longer carries it. It wasn't in the Surplus section, so I assumed it would be something they would continue to carry. I only bought ten tubes, should have bought the case. of twenty five.

You're going to like it. If it's similar to the stuff i picked up, it hardens very quickly but I still give it 24 hours to cure.
Sounds similar to this, works great

This stuff is the best release agent i have ever used. Parts pop apart.

For just a single rifle, JB weld is a good choice.

If you are going to be doing a few rifles over the years, a pound of Devcon aluminum putty is excellent.

The Crown product is good stuff.

I use the Krylon because it's made to withstand heat and I use it on my bullet moulds as well. Also, I still have a case left from a plant closure.

Johnson's paste wax goes a long way and I had a large can. One can will quite easily do several hundred of bedding jobs and you're right, I had that can for over twenty years.

It only seems to be available in the US presently. I actually saw a fellow trying to sell an empty tin at an antique show. Claimed it hasn't been made for fifty years. We know better of course.

There are other products just as good as Johnson's but why fix what isn't broken??

Thanx for that, I picked up a dozen tubes yesterday at the Kelowna PA. They have it on sale for $5.99 each. It's different from the other stuff that's no longer available but was aluminum based.

This may actually be better as it has a much higher strength rating at any temperature we're likely to use it at. 900psi Steel, compared to 600 psi Aluminum.

I will be trying it out on a couple of bedding jobs next week.

Thanx again

parker hale used this type of product back in the day. it was excellent for bedding.
lepage glues also sold it for a couple of years, then they changed the formula.
you will need to keep it in a sealed plastic bag, so the edges don't dry out.

LOL Funny you mentioned this. I have a Parker Hale 1200 Super Clip 300WM. I re did the stock and the bedding was removed. 3M sells this in a tube at Brafasco. I use this all the time for repairs on cracked cylinders on Motors. Holds up Great. You Have to Buy The 3M Brand. Its quality Epoxy. They use it for steam fitting also. Iam going to give it a go On My Parker Hale. New project. Comes 2 Parts also you knead it and apply.
