Yup, just got a new bench gun :) . It is a Finnish Lion target rifle. The trigger on this gun is amazing. If breaks at a nice, no creep 1.5 oz
. I took it to the range yesterday and the results were very good. The gun itself is made by Valmet. It weighs about 12.5-13 pounds, and it is a single shot. I got it for not a bad price, and it came with real good $200 peep sights, and a Really nice Leupold BR 24 power fixed scope. I just did a bit of minor testing and like i said, they turned out good. Here are the results.

100 yards

Green Tag:

.56 (5 shots) .28 without flyer
.667 (5 shots)
.76 (5 shots)
1.09 (5 shots) .545 without flyer

Average = .77 for 5 shots or .563 without the flyer in the two groups.

There is the gun :D

Very nice rifle and groups. I've been interested in these guns for a long time. What is the bracket device in front of the front scope mount for??? Is there a rail in the fore-stock? I'd be interested in hearing how it shoots with the sights.... I know well the feeling of sweating over that 5 th and final shot for group ;)

Nice rifle and nice shooting!

"Cant wait until i try my best ammo at 100 yards"

Let us know how it really shoots with your good ammo... BTW what is your good ammo?

You might want to turn the front rest around, most BR shooters shoot with the single foot to the rear and the other feet to the sides at the front. Many install a "speed screw" in the rear foot for rapid up and down ajustments on the target.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Doc: That device infront of the scope mount is a leveler and yes, it does have a rail in the forearm. Not really sure what it does though.

Norm B: So far, its favorite ammo is Lapua Superclub. I tried Lapua Midas L and M and it did not shoot as good as the superclub.

Calum: It is the Henry range in Parksville. Are you farmilliar with this range?

A friend just bought one for under $400, but it didn't have the free rifle stock like yours, it was in a stnadard match rifle stock.
The Valmets are not noted to be good shooters when the temps drop, but in good outdoor shooting weather or indoors, they shoot quite well.

Remington target works well in his rifle, but Eley target and RWS silhouette work really well.

Nice rifle and good groups!
We should naybe get a "22 Palma " match going when it warms up.
100 , 150, and 200 yards!

Prone sling and irons, and have a scope class as well.....

That would be fun. I think that we should keep it at 100 yards though. A lot of people do not have ranges that are over 100 yards (me for instance.). I would love to compete at 100 yards though :)

The great Canadian Gunnutz 100 yard rimfire match!:D
So, what do we use for equipment rules , two different classes for irons and scopes ?

Prone with slings but no bipods or other rests?o for score and group size, or just score?
We would also have to use a standard target like the SFC 100 yard match target , or something that is a little easier to aquire for some folks.
go for score only, or score and group size?
Any suggestions?

This could be fun!

Any type of rest is alloud

.22LR only

Two classes: Open sights (any open sights), Scope (no restrictions)

We should have two different matches as well. One for score, and one for group size.

For score, if this thing gets a go, i will make a target for the shoot. I will make the 10 ring about .9-1 inch in diameter with an X in the middle that measures about 1/2 an inch. It will be fire 5 shots at each bull (5 bulls in all), for a maximum score of 250-25x.

I am allready running a match over on Rimfire Central. I would not mind running a match here either :)

It sounds good to me

Ohhh, I just thought of a really good idea. We could combine the two matches (group and score into one).

For example, you would fire all 25 shots at the target (taking 5 shots at each of the 5 bulls), count your score, and then with those same 5 groups, we could measure them... I guess it would work :)

Me too

CZ452Shooter, Catnthehat,
I also own a Finnish Lion, but I don't have a bolt for mine. I got it for a good deal because it was missing the bolt. The stock is not in as good condition as yours.

If you've seen others of these around, or have any idea where I might find a bolt, I'd appreciate your advice.

Matt.

Not yet...I'm located in the Cowichan Valley area, so I use the ranges around here, but I should visit yours someday if there is ever a gunshow in your area. :)

Any rest and scopes kind of gets rid of the standard match rifle with sling and peep sights unless you lump the peep sight in with open sighted irons?

The rail in the fore-arm is for various accesories- the most well known is the palm rest.

I'd be interested in shooting your competition, but I'd be out-classed weight-wise. My heaviest .22 is right around the 6 3/4 lb mark- my 52 Repro. Not sure it'll run with the heavy big boys at 100 yds, but it's be fun trying....
