New Bino's

I am looking to purchase some better bino's as currently I am using a cheap set of Burris which are not very good during low light conditions and the eye relief is a bit short since I wear eye glasses. I was wondering what you would recommend if my budget was $500.
 
Leupold Wind River Pinnacles or the new Green Ring Mojaves which are a little cheaper than the Pinnacles.

I have an older Leica trinovid BA 8x42 and the Leupold Pinnacles in 8X42.
The Leica out performs in low light conditions other than that I prefer the Leupolds.
 
The GF also wears glass... and she's pretty happy with her Minox BL8x32. It's got plenty of eye relief.

$500.00 is an odd price point in retail bino sales. You can find decent product for $399.00 from Nikon, maybe Pentax, Bushnell for sure. A lot of folks think the Nikon Monarch is good value. FS
 
The Leupold Mojave are outstanding glass for the price. My mom has the 8x42 Mojave and they're phenomenal. I have the 10x42 Pentax which are pretty nice as well. I almost like the Mojave's more, it's that close between the two.
 
go to opticsplanet for reviews. i just picked up a pair of Vortex Fury 10x40's and they are really amazing. I struggled between these and the nikon monarchs in the same. don't think you could go wrong with the nikon's either but the Vortex have impressed in every way. i compared this price point to pretty much all of them and the nikon's and vortex stood way out for me.
Rule #1, don't go with the bottom line of any brand in optics. do your research and read reviews through google. you first need to decide how much you are going to spend then go from there. as you can see by the posts here there are that many options. good luck.
 
There are some birders forums where you can find reviews of binoculars and these people are pretty fussy when it comes to carrying glass.
 
Get porro-prism binoculars. You'll get a top-notch set for $500.


On the other hand, those Minox are roof-prism, and unless you're willing to spend a thousand or more, you're not spending your money very wisely.


Take heed from an astronomer, roof-prisms are nice, but unless they're exceptionally well made (and priced accordingly), they're nothing but junk.
 
Binos under $500

I have switched all my glass to Leupold, good service, excellent quality, durable. I suggest you look in the used market for Gold Rings. They are the best this side of Sarovosky or Leitz products.
 
Vortex Vipers. For less than $500, they are stellar.

I also own a few Minox and a set of Leica Geovids, and my 8x42 Vipers are by FAR the best bang for the buck. Excellent warranty, and nice glass for the money. Better than Monarchs for sure.
