New Bino's

Either way - www.cameralandny.com has VERY good pricing. Doug is very good to deal with! I actually bought my Viper's as 'demo' models, and they were brand new, and had not a single speck of anything wrong. Better yet, because they were sold as 'used', there was no GST at the border. :)

Get porro-prism binoculars. You'll get a top-notch set for $500.

On the other hand, those Minox are roof-prism, and unless you're willing to spend a thousand or more, you're not spending your money very wisely.

Take heed from an astronomer, roof-prisms are nice, but unless they're exceptionally well made (and priced accordingly), they're nothing but junk.
X2 Thats the best advice so far. Spend $400 to $500 for quality porro binoculars,to get equaly good roof binos, you have to spend way, way more than $1000.

I just (got em three days ago) invested in a pair of Hawke Frontier ED bins, and they are all that and more!

Also, they are pretty much the same as the Promaster ED , which you can get at Cameraland

The glass on both these are incredibly clear, and the comparison has been made to Zeiss, Leica, and Swarovski (the 'big three'), only at 1/3 the price. Basically under $500 instead of $1500.
If you do the research (I believe the birder forums have been mentioned) these seem to be a no brainer. IMHO
Lifetime warranty on the Promasters: break em, send em in, get new pair.
Everyone is going to have their 'favorite, must haves'; best advise, go and try em out.
Once again, I am seriously impressed with my new Hawke ED's. I own Eschenbach's (german high quality) and a Fujinon 7x50 military model (impressive, but too heavy for long term transporting), and I believe the Hawkes blow them out of the proverbial H2O.
Just my 2 cents.
