New Boots

What sort of hunting do you do?
Are you strolling 2-3 km through relatively flat deer woods, or slogging 5-6 km through swamp and bogs, or walking 10-15 km over prairie, or climbing 20 km through serious mountains?

A boot recommendation without knowing the application is going to be a pure guess.

He used danner canadians for 15 years and liked them so something like these

If I am still or stand hunting I usually am wearing a set of Muck Arctic's. The boots I am in need of would be used for pushing bush in mostly hardwoods with the odd bog or swamp in the bottoms. I can usually get by these by skirting the edges though . Central to northern Ontario.

Come to think of it, I have a pair of size 11 lowa Tibet that I'd love to sell. Wore them for 1 season. PM if interested.

Looking for some input as to where to find a good pair of lace up hunting boots ? Been wearing a set of Danner Canadians for over 15 years now and they have hit the point of retirement . What's a good set to look for now days? I don't mind spending the coin as I don't like to skimp on hunting footwear.

Can you not send them back to Oregon for a rebuild?
Cost effective likely not much cheaper than buying new again iffen you enjoyed the 15 years of wear might be an option to buy again.
I wear Acadias and a pair of fort Lewis for different days afield.

I would go with the Danners again... I bought a pair of the Pronghorns a few years ago and since they only get a couple weeks worth of use a year they will probably last the rest of my life....

I’ve worn Irish setters, danners, muck, under armour and the only boots I will wear now are meindls. Schnees makes a good boot and the lowas seem to be popular. Kenetrek makes a very nice boot as well. But like previously stated it really depends on hunting style.

I have had good luck with my Danner Pronghorns. This was only my second season in them but I have put a lot of km's on them in the two years and have held up good and have been waterproof to date. They have been good for hunting eastern Ontario, mix of hills, hard woods and swap. with a set of gators on I am pretty much waterproof to my knees.

My boot are so well worn now that they wouldn't be able to do anything for a rebuild from what Danner says on the web page.

Where's the best place to source out a set of Lowa's. I went into sail today to try on a low height pair they had to see if my 10'5 boot size would be the same as the Danner's I have that way ordering would be a tad easier, but they had no stock in my size.

Bought a pair of Meindl Alaskan Hunters in July for sheep season last Aug/Sept and broke them in properly prior to the hunt. Put on over 100km up and down mountains over 9 days with a 56lbs pack and my feet were great. Good quality socks also helped.
Bought a new pair of Irish Setter Rutmasters in the spring prior to turkey season, hunted about 6 days then put them on again in deer season, both ripped right across the back of the heel. The new ones are junk compared to the old Irish Setter Neoprene. I didn't read the reviews or I would have know they rip at the heal.
Have a pair of Irish Setter Elk Hunters and they are a good all around hunting boot down to about -5.

Boots are different for everybody, read lots of reviews but take them with a grain of salt. Always buy good quality boots that "fit you in the store" sore feet ruin a hunt. During hunting seasons I spend more time in my boots than I do in my bed.

Ive been wearing a pair of Danner High Ground 8" 400g for the last year now, nice boots, light weight and warm when walking. Fit well and seem to be holding up ( i know its only been a year so far ( about 120kms walking so far)).

The only bad reviews i see with them are if you pull the #### out of your laces instead of going loop by loop when tightening them you can rip the lace rings off the boots.

But like anything if you try hard enough it can be broken.

I have Platypus feet and the only pair that I could find that fit me comfortably were Irish Setter Elk Hunters, a bit pricey but my feet are so happy in them, great for hiking and decent for sitting in a stand but they don't replace a winter boot.
Putting them on is like wearing your favorite pair of slippers to go hunting.

I bought my last few pairs of lowas from Sport Dinaco who run the Lowa.ca webpage. Altitude sports has a current sale on these boot as well. Both will accept returns iirc.

I am a size 11.5 D in Danners and a size 11.5 in Lowas. I use the plastic airthotic in the Danners and superfeet in the Lowas.
The tibets are a bit lower with less insulation than the gtx hunter extreme.

I have a pair of Lowa Tibet GTX Hi boots that have been excellent. On a two week goat hunt this past fall I wore a pair of Cabela's Denali Boots by Meindl and they proved to be very good... they held up and were comfortable climbing in, wading rivers, and bucking brush... I wore them all fall guiding moose hunters in Northern Ontario and they held up well and stayed dry... at least until I went in over the tops and my tucked in fleece LJ's wicked down into the boots... can't blame the boots for that.

I'm about 12 years into my Danners and wear them sparingly. They still look like new, but I dread having to find a replacement for them. I'm currently looking for a high, waterproof winter boot for coyote hunting.

I’d buy another pair of Canadians if I were you. They are still made in the US and are built on the same last as your previous pair so if those ones fit you well, you were happy with them, and they lasted you 15 years of wear to the point where they can no longer be re-crafted I would go with the same thing again personally.

I bought a pair of under armour trail runners last spring. The first pair ripped at the seam below the lace holes in two weeks. Returned them to the store and replaced them with the "upgraded" pair (same style, "tougher" materials, on sale at the same price I paid for the first pair). These lasted about six months ... I've sworn off anything under armour ever again.
