New brass with type s bushing die

I have a match die set coming from redding and some virgin Norma brass waiting. I think I understand the concept of the bushing dies, and with that said, should I resize the brass the first time with an expander ball?
 
I don't as i don't want to overwork or stretch cases as well as undoing the dimensions of the neck formed by the bushing. I don't use any kind of expander when using a bushing die.
 
I was thinking of using an old neck sizing die first and then sizing them in the bushing die. Some of the necks are dented. and I would imagine some of them are not expanded enough to take advantage of the bushing die?
I realize I am working the brass more, but assume a dented neck is not going to work in a bushing die.
 
Is your bushing die a neck die or full length? If it's a neck die, I'd just run cases through that die with the bushing in place and no other expander and see what happens, no harm in it!
 
I had just did a batch of 100 virgin Norma Brass though my Redding S type full length die. Ran all of them through, mainly for the reason to get the proper neck tension for my Bergers combo. Getting some good, accurate results.
 
I always thought that bushing dies sets were meant to be used on custom chambers and are a waste of money to use on a factory chamber? FS
 
i am new to reloading and am loading brass for 6.5x47Lapua and i have new Lapua brass, but there is quite a few that have the neck bent in a bit....is it alright to run the expander just through the neck and not FL size the brass? Do i remove the bushing from the die or can i expand and neck size with the bushing at once?

If you have an expander mandrel for turning necks then use that to iron out the dents. If not, then your only other option is to use the expander ball on a FL sizing die.

You do not want to use an expander ball if you are using a bushing die. The Type S dies include a 2nd decapper collar that will not expand the necks. The expander ball can introduce unwanted runout in your necks.
