Just picked up a Browning BLR. Model 81 BLR Short Action, manufactured in 1988. Added a Bushnell Elite 3500 scope. Just need to add a strap and try to find another clip. It's in great shape and I'm very happy. Unfortunately, I can't sight it in until next month.

It was manufactured in 1988, so from what I've discovered on the net, it's Japanese.

Congratulations on a great handy little rifle, you will really enjoy it. I have 2 Model 81 steel receiver BLR's,.. 7mm-08Rem, 284Win,... and a alloy receiver PG 358Win,... all are accurate, handy rifles.. nice to carry

Great choice! I am a BLR fan. I ran a 284 for years and foolishly sold it. I have been running a 325 stainless synthetic blr for the last 10 years and really like the rig. Its the least accurate rig I own averaging about 1.6" groups but that's still fine. I have made multiple 400 yard shots with that rig on game as small as coyotes. The triggers are the worst part of these rifles. Trying to find a smith that can work on them is tough too.

Congrats on your find. I think 308 is the perfect caliber for this little rifle. Have a '76 that works pretty slick. The trigger isn't too bad- I haven't measured the pull but it breaks clean. I just needed to get used to it.

Would love to see photos of your BLR with a scope on it... I'm thinking of scoping my BLR but can't decide on a regular scope setup or a scout setup. Decisions, decisions...

My wife gave me a new 308 BLR for my birthday in ‘78 and I hunted with it for 25 years. Still in my safe although I haven’t used it for a few years. It has been an excellent rifle and taken its share of deer and moose. Easy to carry, comes up and settles on target fast. Safe as rifle can be. I don’t know why you want another magazine, they are secure and don’t fall out. When hunting in cold weather, it is a good idea to run them dry for reliable function.
I run an old Bushnell ScopeChief 1.5 X 4 with a 20mm objective lens to help keep the weight down. I can rely on mine to group about 1.25” at 100m which I think is pretty decent for a lever gun.
