Went to check it out at Cabelas yesterday. Feels really good, I like the pistol grip. Its going that or the Benneli MR1. Guy at the desk told me not to go with the Browning. Has anyone used one? Other than 1 youtube video I can't find any info on it.

MR1 is out of production now. I don't know the implications of that, whether there will be parts for them in the long run or not. I love my Benellis but I do not own an MR1. I have the BLR in a stainless takedown Hog stalker configuration. If you are looking to save some cash, there is one on EE right now for $950. It's a good price. They were only rebadged "Hog Stalker" this year in the green laminate and include a bag. This is last year's model minus the bag and cool name:

Two different firearms. BLR is an outstanding rifle. Shorter barreled, reliable, easy to use and proven. MR1 is a beautiful semi auto. More moving parts, perhaps slightly more complicated to handle. Different design and performance characteristics. As an owner of both, I can say neither is superior just different. Hog hunter is a standard BLR with a different colour stock and slightly shorter barrel. No offence to our friends at Cabelas but opinons are like bumholes. Everyone has them and most stink.

what does a lever gun have to do with a semi auto 308?

Sorry guys, I was half asleep last night when I made this thread. I did I prior search on the forum which came up with nothing. Then this morning I see that there was a thread on this same gun made already. Anyway boys. the exact gun im referring to is the Browning BAR ShortTrac Hog Stalker Semi-Auto Rifle. I know it and the MR1 aren't even in the same class. Why its between those 2 is because they are both NR, pistol grip, magfed semi autos. I would much prefer the 308 compared to the 223. But being able to hold a full 10 rounds in a LAR magazine is very appealing. Im looking forward to the review from CerealBlast! cheers

If you are considering a NR 223, there are much better options out there than the MR1 and more coming soon IMO

$1700 is pretty much my cap and I want to go with a brand I know makes good guns. I was into the MPAR 556, but im impatient lol

The BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle) has been around since like forever. I know it was in use during the during WW II - so the freakin thing has been battlefield tested.
I doubt that the commercial hunting BAR rifles are the same as their military predecessors, but Browning does have distinguished history in the area of automatic rifles.
I don't think there is a more widely used and widely respected automatic rifle then the BAR. So if I were you, I'd go slap that salesperson up side the head for making
such a moronic statement. I've owned a .308 Browning Lightweight Stalker (although I could never figure out what was so light about it) and the thing just worked and
worked and worked - never a misfeed, a misfire, or a stovepipe - an extremely reliable gun. How the newer Short Trac BAR rifles compare to the older BAR rifles, I'm
not certain, but if it has "Browning BAR" as part of its name then it's probably a pretty good rifle.

sounds good, thx

the BAR and mr1 are both good quality rifles. The Mr1 has some ergonomic issues that some people don't like, but they work. Same thing with the BAR's. I'd get a 308 and .223....actually, I did lol
