I just got in A BBL blank. It is a 6.5mm 1-9 twist Shilen match CM. Looking for ideas. So far 6.5x55 is looking good!!

Is that a 1.25" diameter straight stock barrel, you going to have a very heavy 6.5mm caliber. 6.5X55SM would be a very good round for long range.

Started turning it, gonna leave it straight taper at whatever tenon diameter I need, was almost 9 lb as received

With a 1-9 I would go for a 6.5x47 Lapua. I don't think you can shoot the 140's out of a 1-9 and the 6.5x47 seems to do very well with the 120-130's

My version of the 260 improved.

You should be able to stabilize the 140gr VLD's but it will be close.

Now that is tempting... Are you running a gun in that chambering right now? How is bbl life? Just fire form brass and neck size after?

Here is how she sits now. 1.055" diameter.

Will start threading after I finish polishing. Will break my set up and hold it through the headstock for threading.

I would have skipped the nut if I was custom chambering a barrel to my action personally.

Another vote for 6.5x47L. If a single shot I would also be tempted by 260AI.

I switch bbls like I switch underwear...just check my ads in the EE. This is just for fun.
