New Burris FFP XTR II

I've tried goggling these extensively and I've read some good reviews but I'm waiting for someone here on CGN to write a review. I like how many features they have for the price but right now a lot of people seem to be on the Bushnell Tactical DMR bandwagon. If I read enough favorable reviews on the Burris I will order one but as it stands the Bushnell is what I'm leaning towards.

Please post a review if you manage to pick one up!

Problem with the Bushnell for me is the lack of a lit reticle.

I have one in the 3-15 variant. I really like it. Is is not a Scmidt and Bender by any means.
However I feel the glass is very good for the price. The zero stop works very well and is super easy to set. The turrets feel pretty good they are audible. I found them a bit mushy at first but after running them up and down a bit they got much better. Probably working some grease out of it. Also in the extreme cold when I am hunting they are a bit less tactile. Between my gloves and being -20 or colder I understand.

The sunshade is nice. Mine is the exact same dimensions as a 5-25 schmidt without a shade.
The flip up caps were alright. I liked that they flipped over past 90 degrees to lay against the scope. I still managed to smash them. But it took longer than expected and it happened in the cold.

The parallax adjustment is nice. I found the ranges to be pretty close to where I would adjust them personally.

I really like the illuminated reticle dial being on top of the parallax knob. At first I was worried I'd be turning on the reticle when I would adjust the parallax. Not an issue.

The power ring is very smooth. I find the tension to be about perfect. I can easily adjust it in any weather condition regardless of gloves or mitts and I have never noticed it move while carrying it. I sling my rifle across my chest so its aleays rubbing against my gear, still no issue.

The glass does darken up a bit at full power. Its not as noticeable without the sunshade however. It does gather light quite well and I could easily identify and shoot game much prior to or after legal shooting light. I have no other good way to quantify that.

Overall I am very happy with it. I might even pick up another one in 4-20 or something for if I ever get my 338 Edge built.

Can you compare to Sightron or Nighforce glass? I don't expect s&b glass but if it was comparable to Sightron I would be happy.

I have never been behind a sightron, only looked through a few cheaper models at a store once so I can't comment on that. Only been behind 1 or 2 nightforce scopes as well. I know a couple guys with them and a vortex scopes. Next time I run into one of them I can compare, but off the top of my head I don't feel like I can be accurate.

Interesting that you say the clicks were mushy at first but that they got better with use. "Mushy" clicks are pretty the only negative I've read about these scopes.

A side by side comparison between say the XTR-II glass and Sightron / Vortex / Nightforce would be nice.

I got mine from prophet river.
I should be able to do a direct comparison with a vortex PST, schmidt, and a leupold mark 4 or whatever it is That my buddy has.

You know... I've never been much of a burris fan (Not a Burris hater, just not really a fan), but I think it's time to re-evaluate.
This Burris XTR II line looks to hit all my hot buttons right on the dot.
The price isn't ridiculous either even though they look to have the design and specs right. Most companies would gouge at the opportunity.

I'd realy like to hear more about what guys think of these after some first hand use.
