Driving towards Vancouver from the ferry landing in Tswwassen I noticed what sure looks like the makings of a Cabela's style building at that big new shopping center. Any word on it?

My wife just checked and apparently it is to be a Bass Pro Shop. OK, I can live with that.

Thats the new Bass Pro Shop, which is a flagship store of that new development. I heard that Cabelas was looking at a location in Abbotsford, not sure how far along that is or whether it will happen, I hope so.

Some people think it's a dumb location for the new bass pro shop, I think it's a good one. Right by the ocean and they are known for fishing supplies more so than firearms.

This^^^^^. BPS seems to always build in the middle of nowhere. Probably because land is cheaper and they needs lots of it.

You're right its a Bass Pro that is opening in the spring of 2016 with 145000 sq ft of space. Cabelas open in Abby in the fall of 2016 with 75000 sq ft on McCallum rd and the #1 HWY

I'm looking forward to it. For those of us Islanders that go to the mainland shows it will be a good spot to hit on the way back to the ferry if we have any money left. As for the mall killing local business I can't really say as I'm only interested in getting off the damn ferry or racing back to get of the damn mainland. I think it will be good for the community.

The Bass Pro, even if it's not in a major city centre, will still be much closer to many people than a Cabellas in Abbotsford .... It will depend on where people actually live and I'm sure it will pick up a lot of Ferry traffic as well.

Cabela's in Nanaimo has been less than exciting the couple visits I made. Actually went to WSS down the road, but as usual no stock. Seems Cabela's Canada and the U.S. Cabela's have nothing in common other than the name. Guy laughted in my face when I asked about bringing in a model 70 exclusive to Cabela's.

I'm not a fan of any big box store but I will say that WSS Langley has always had everything I've needed...

I'll never step foot in that Langley WSS again.
I was completely amazed at the lazy and utterly incompetent staff. The gal at customer service was the only one with her head in the game. Gun counter... Total joke with clueless dimwits and a fellow so lazy it took him 20 minutes to walk 1 box of 20 rounds to the cash desk. One of the worst shopping experiences I've encountered.

On that note, I'll continue to support long standing family based sporting goods businesses like Berry's Bait n tackle, fred's custom tackle, and Reliable Gun. I have no problem paying a little more if that's the case. Support local business not these american owned walmarts of sporting goods.
