New caliber the 7-08 looking for starting point

I just got my wife a browning micro midas for our anniversary chambered in 7-08 and am looking for a start point for loads. It is a short 20 in barrel with a 1:9.5 twist. I want to use 140g bullets and have a bunch of different powders such as 4350, 4895, varget, and 6064. Would like to get some different suggestions of different combinations so I can narrow down my choice.

Of the powders you listed, 4350 would be the one to start with. 44gr would get you Started.

H380 - 44

H414 (760) - 43

RL19 45

I am going to try the load at the bottom.

Nosler Trophy Grade ammo in 7mm-08 is supposed to be very accurate.

I did up some loads using:

Browning Micro Hunter 7mm-08 20" barrel

Nosler Brass
Fed LR Match primer
Nosler Accubond 140gr
2.885 OAL
Ramshot Big Game

Did a 15 round ladder test @ 100 yards(12 year old doing the shooting).

Charge started @ 43.5 and went up to 47.5

barrel was cooled down between each shot.

Velocity ranged from 2550 up to 2735.



There were 3 accuracy nodes but all rounds went into about a 2.5 inch circle...about 6 made one ragged hole.

I settled with 47.5 gr. which is sub-MOA. Keeping in mind the small profile barrels on these small rifles heat up quick its pretty amazing.


First time using Ramshot rifle powders but have to say I am very impressed.

I'm using 139gr hornady interlock, gmx, and sst with 48.7gr of h4350. It shoots spectacular in my guns. In my 22" m70 I get just over 2900fps. These are also loaded longer then the books say.
