I like what Ruger has been doing with their No.1 lineup lately. It started with the 9.3x74R and the .450/400 Nitro Express. Then came the .300 H&H. Now, amongst others, they have released the .475 Linbaugh/.480 Ruger. That would be a simple rechamber to .470 Nitro Express.

And, they are bringing out the 7.62x39 and 6.8mm Rem SPC in their nifty little M77 compact - a perfect deer rifle for youngsters!

I wonder what they have planned for the future...perhaps some more classics like the .404 Jeffery? Maybe something in .250-3000?

One of the vendors at the local gun show we just had here has one in 9.3X74R and one in .400/450 Nitro. I would really like the 9.3X74, and by golly if I had a little less sense, and a little more cash I'd buy the .400/450. Maybe the recoil would knock some sense into me then. :D Then I could have it both ways.

I've always liked the Ruger single shots in big chamberings. Even before I found that they are basically a Farqueson rip off. Putting them into dinky calibers (< .375) doesn't seem to suit.

Oh, I don't know, a No. 1-V ( HB Varminter) in 25-06 makes into a pretty handy rig for varmints/deer on this side of the pond !

I'd also go for a No.1 in 9.3x74, ( big, long "elegant" looking rimmed cartridges :) ) but I'd far prefer it in the 1-H rather than 1-S version. As long as they're at it, a 6X70R
in a 1-V would make a ###y euro-companion for the 9.3 ! :D

A no1 in .303Brit would be cool. Make it light weight tropical with Alex Henry forend, barrel band etc.

Always wanted a number one as well, just waiting for them to chamber them in a 6.5mm cartridge, I actually e-mailed them asking them if thay had plans do produce the no.1 in 6.5x55 or the new 6.5 creedmoor. They replied "no" but said they would pass it on to their marketing division.

.30-40 Krag and .303 British both strike me as logical chamberings for the No.1. They should also do a heavy barrel varmint model in .225 Winchester.

Single shots are best suited to rimmed cases.

I'm having Bill leeper build one for me as we speak!
half round/half octagon barrel, 25", express sights, with a shadowline cheekpiece and ebony forend tip - Kipplinger set trigger, of course!:D
Here's what the wood looks like - somebody PLEASE enlarge this pic for me?

Ruger did make some LTD Edition #1's in 6.5X55 for Lipsey's...
Lipsey sez the next #1 LTD. Edition will be chambered in the .250-3000... They where slated for 2009 but Ruger hasn't had time to do the run for them yet..
So far all these #1 LTD Editions that Lispey has had done are stainless with walnut stocks...
