I made a new video on YouTube that is intended for people who might be contemplating a cape buffalo hunt. There is a drt kill shot at the end. .577 NE 700 gr. Peregrine bullet at a sizzling 1,600 fps terminal velocity.
Hope you enjoy it. brian

Thanks to everyone for your responses.
To get an affordable cape buffalo hunt look for a cape buffalo cow hunt in the right area. It's the same as hunting a bull. Same herd. Seasoned dangerous game hunters know that cows are a bit harder to get close to than bulls.
Cows can be very troublesome too! Cows can cost much less than bulls to hunt in some areas and are just as exciting.
I have taken 9 cape buffalo in South Africa with 3 different outfits. The first two were bulls at regular retail prices. About $12-14 thousand each, all in. They were great hunts but way out of my price range. Then I investigated buffalo cow hunting and found out they could be hunted in some areas for much less.
I suggest that you contact Pieter Kriel at Mkulu Hunting Safaris. He is an excellent PH, lots of fun and very experienced with cape buffalo. ( I have no business or commission association with him. When people ask me about an affordable cape buffalo hunt I recommend Pieter.)
Cheers, Brian

Brian is spot on, if the trophy isn't a consideration then a cow can be just the ticket for getting the same experience at a much reduced price.
Brian, as always thanks for sharing.

Excellent thread. Cape buffalo is on my bucket list as well.

I was after warthog a year ago in South Africa and we were bluff charged by a bull Cape.

My guide has a blue tick coonhound he uses for tracking and the buffalo were at least 300 yards away. Soon as the buffalo seen the dog they started to run our way. I could tell by my PHs voice that we had to hurry and get back to the vehicle. I had a 300winmag in my hands and he had a .470. He had the gun on his shoulder and carrying the dog running to the truck lol

Last I looked back they were about 75 yards away and closing ground. Had my ol ticker racing pretty good!

Should mention my PHs good friend was killed by a Cape about 8 months before that, killed by a young bull when he was clearing a trail to get the truck to his clients Cape. I'll never forget that sound the herd makes running across the dry plains....
