New cartridge from Hornady> .308 Marlin Express!

Well - a bolt gun is very hard for a left handed person to shoot - can't reach the bolt with the rifle mounted on your left shoulder.

A lever gun will operate the same if you work the lever with your left OR right hand. So they're claiming that this gives left handed shooters a fast-shooting platform that is ideal for deer.

I'm thinking they never heard of the browning blr or the remington pump rifles - but hey, that's just me :D

I totally agree that sales are only one indicator of the success of a caliber. There are many calibers on that list that are excellent, but either dupilcate another more popular caliber or are just outright ignored by shooters for no good reason.

.

One could argue that all calibers try to duplicate or beat the 30/06 or the .308 but people still buy into it.:p

And the .22mag? Lots of those around.

The ,22 mag will be around for a long time. Too bad the 5mm Remington died out. It was a decent cartridge.

The overpriced necked down version of the .22 LR, the .17 HM2 will be the next rimfire to go.

I'm curious about the performance with reloaded rounds. If you need the hornady ammo to produce close to those numbers, that kind of limits its use.

I assume(perhaps incorrectly) that the factory loads likely use the same loading techniques as the "light magnum" ammo. I remember reading an article where some of the LM ammo was disected to find the powder tightly compressed. To the point wher it was impossible for the handloader to duplicate.

And we need an "almost 308" for what?

I guess left handed shooters can work a lever gun as well as right handeds can.
Well that's true, to a point.
We have a fellow in my moose camp, that gets jams from his BLR because of the side ejection port.
Him being left handed, the ejected round bounces off his arm, and back into the action.
He used to use an old Winchester 94 top eject. No problems there. Truely the ambidextrous rifle.

Hornady

Hi again, call me crazy......:dancingbanana: But wasn't there such a rifle that was chambered for ALL .308 rounds ??? Hmmmm now what was it  .

Oh I remember... It was the Winchester model 88 !!! I'm pretty sure that the 88 can still kick the crap out of this "new" Marlin / Hornady. Makes a guy think that there is no one working at Marlin / Hornady that isn't older than the age 15. That seems to be the age that the word "research" has no meaning. :D :D :D

Oh geez, and I forgot about the lovely Browning BLR as well !!!

Maybe they should call their new Marlin / Hornady the Hubcap, cause that's all it is in my opinion.:D :D :D

If i want that kind of performance i will use my Grandmothers old 99c in .308 as well. The firearm/ammo industry is no different than the redundancy's in the auto industry.

...........I guess they have to come up with something every once in a while to keep the people in the business excited. Afterall could you imagine if we went a whole 5 years without another new redundant caliber??:runaway: I have other hobbies and not any of their respective industries have such a desire to reinvent the wheel such as this one.

yep, i gotta admit it, that 7mm saum is a flopper!
so if anyone plans on getting rid of theirs due to this fact, could you please give me all your brass:D

Same sad old guys... same sad old arguments.:(
Most of the "so called" failures on Supers list are still in production with factory ammo and reloading components available.
The idea of a .308 in a tube fed loop belly isn't my cup of tea either... but I am not grinding it as a failure simply because I don't have a use for it!
I would love to shoot one... I would not hesitate to hunt with one... and if it gets one more hunter off the couch into the gunstore then it is a winner n my mind!
Why do you feebs feel threatened by something new... are you so unhappy that you must attack everything new or different just to validate your simple-minded existence!:p
I love it when you guys go all girly trying to justify your own choices... what a bunch of flakes.:dancingbanana:
Without any research and development the industry would most certainly die and without the industry where would we be... seriously fellas you are unbelievably narrow minded.:runaway:
How do you like me now.;)

When I shoot weak handed I have not found this to be the case. For a left handed shooter firing a right handed bolt gun - with the rifle at the shoulder, rotate the rifle 90 degrees to the left with the right hand, work the bolt which can now be easily reached with the left hand. With a little practice, this technique is fast and the movements are natural.

There's something about being called a "feeb" by BR that warms my heart. It gives me the fuzz warmies all over. I love you BIGREDD :p

BUT ............ if you re-read what I said, no where will you see that I felt "threatened" or I "attacked" the aforementioned cartridges. I merely pointed out the they didn't sell well, not that they weren't a useful or well designed. Take a look at what I shoot, some of which can be found on that list. 358W, 257R, 300H&H. All good calibers, but not on the popular kid list. Yes, you can buy components, but factory ammo is not readily available. So in some respects they are failure as they fail so sell well enough to warrant a wide chambering in factory guns.

I kinda see you (BIGREDD) like some of those calibers. Not very popular but having some limited usefulness. :D

.

I was not hacking on you personally Super... I should not have used your name in vain...;)

Just making a point... and having some fun at the same time.:dancingbanana:

I would have thought that some of the Can-Opener shooters would be a little bit more excited about the direction that Hornady and Marlin are going with this stuff.
I seem to remember all the naysaying about the lever revolution ammo when it was first discussed here too.... and that stuff performs as advertised and is hugely popular now.
