Well.....after quite a while reading a lot of posts and doing lot of research,I finally made the Casting plunge!

Got my trusty Lee 6 mould .356 ready to go



Water quenched them to harden them



Very happy with the end result!

Ya I smelt outside K-C,but I still wear eyewear/gloves and a industrial gas mask (lead is nasty stuff to breath in regardless of ventilation)
 
Frosty? Yes I'm saving up for a Lee Precision Pro 4-20.For now I'm ladle casting,which is kinda fun.I can bang out the bullets lickity split!
 
Looks awesome. I am getting everything to get going to start up casting as we speak. Almost have everything just trying to decide on a mould and have to get powder coat. PC is the way to go by far. I am shooting pc cast I bought from a member on another group. Work great.
 
Nice job! Now I know what I'm going to do Saturday.

Get some paste wax (Minwax) to mix with the Alox. You won't be sorry. Remeber that a little goes a long way.
 
Thanks hometownhero and good luck! I really am enjoying myself.On the weekend I turned the radio on chilled out under the deck and proceeded to make in the neighbourhood of 2000 cast bullets.Having the Lee 6 mould is totally awesome!before you know it you have a huge mound of bullets made!

Looks like you have a good handle on what you're doing with your current setup, 2000 bullets ? I doubt you could keep up the pace any better with a 4/20 . Maybe invest in a thermometer (pyrometer) if you want a better control on the temperature, but if you are having fun and turning out a good bullet, why not keep doing what you are doing now, looks great!
 
Thanks vinver, I really appreciate the feedback.Let me tell you after around 4 hours of sitting ladleing I felt like a truck hit me when I got up!I think I'll pave myself in future :) I might just take the advice I'm getting and stick to using my ladle.Save $105.00,and use it to buy more lead,and a Pyrometer!
 
If you google "frosted bullets" and look at the images you will see the difference. From my understanding it doesn't really effect accuracy but it just means your mold is to hot. I tend to go at a fast pace when casting and keep a soaked cloth to occasionally cool off my molds.
 
If you're using lee liquid alox you frosted bullets are actually better for holding more lube. I purposely cast my high speed rifle bullets hot to get frosted and use 45/45/10 lube. That's Johnsons past wax (or Minwax will do), Lee Liquid Alox, and mineral spirits. This blend will make your LLA go farther and the bullets wont be sticky to the touch.
 
Can't get the pics (IP trouble), but it sounds like you are having fun. I have cast for a long time, and still use my two trusty Lee bottom pour pots. One I use mostly for melting wheel wgts. and the other for casting. I often get two moulds going to keep them cool. or warm, as the case may be. I have never used a pyrometer or thermometer. I keep it simple and still enjoy casting. I cast for pistol and rifle. With one exception, I use all Lee moulds, some single, some double, and some 6 bangers. I love the Lee Tumble Lube bullets. I lube with straight Lee Liquid Alox, and some blue stick lube on faster rifle loads. I tumble on the Alox in an ice cream container and if necessary, I add the blue stuff in the grooves with my fingers!

Great advice guys thanks!! I'm going to be shooting straight lead and pc bullets out of my glock17.Ive read pros and cons about the subject,some say don't because of leading and the polygon barrels,others say as long as you lube them,resize them(I have a Lee .356 resizing die)and check/clean the barrel every 50 rounds it should be OK.I might just buy a wolf replacement barrel also.Any and all advice is appreciated.
 
something is not quite right if you have to clean after only 50 rounds of PC boolits, lots of antidotal evidence (Castboolits alternative coatings forum) of shooters using their Glocks for many hundreds of rounds and not a sign of leading.
