Except being a Fed contract, they will build (with our tax money) a factory in QC to build them, which will take ten times as long to do as any other factory in the world, with huge cost over runs and quality issues abounding. Eventually they will give up, sell the factory to a foriegn conglomerate for ten cents on the dollar, and buy from them at a price three times what we could just have bought them for originally. In the end, each gun will cost us way more then we could have just purchased them for, and the infrastructure in QC will have siphoned off billions for organised crime/the liberal party. Lets not forget it will be a 4" gun that is prohibited for sale to civilians. 4" guns are designed to kill humans and are good for nothing else or so says the Liberal bureaucratic minions. Upon reflection perhaps the 4" guns are best for the military since they aren't issued guns for hunting wild game.

Maybe not, look at the latest ship contracts. They actually went to the businesses with the best bids, none of which were in QC so there is hope.

Yes, but in that case, the Quebec bid was not even remotely comparable:

1. The shipyard was insolvent, and had been shut down for the past 18 months. It had only a single employee left for much of this time, and had only been rebought and brought back to life two weeks before submitting the bid.

2. Their past performance has been dismal; in 2007, they landed two contracts worth $750 million total to build ships for both clients. The federal government paid them and additional $300 million bailout. The shipyard ran out of money before either contract was fulfilled; has not launched a single boat. In fact, they are being sued by the client for almost $200 million since they used the cash advance to keep the lights on and never actually worked on the boats.

And despite all the blatantly obvious issues with the Quebec bid, the government was more or less publicly flogged by the press and the 'elite' for being anti-Francophone for not sending a contract to this mess anyways.

My guess is they will send the HP contract to Quebec as a small compensation.

I think he was talking with respect to previous contracts at Davies Shipbuilding to build ships for the Navy / Coast Guard; which I must agree with the history and sentiments.

Besides, it was already stated that DND wanted the pistol made by Colt Canada in Kitchener, Ont.
Are there even firearms manufacturing facilities in Quebec? :confused:
 
Well we could fire up North American Arms Co. here in Quebec City to produce the GSP. Of course, they only ever produced M1911's in 1918 so we'd have to stay with that particular model.. to save on retooling.. :D

Oh and you can slap a rail onto it if you like.

The contract does say Colt Canada will be making these on the first page. However, I do foresee Quebec feeling unfairly left out, even though there isn't a gun manufacturing industry in it. I bet the Tories will feel sorry for Quebec and let it produce those 10,000 lanyards.

As part of the Small Arms Modernization (SAM) project, the Department of National Defence (DND) is assessing options for the replacement of the 9mm Browning High Power and the 9mm Sig Sauer Model 225 pistol with a new General Service Pistol (GSP), as well as the replacement of the Lee Enfield rifle with a New Canadian Ranger Rifle (NCRR).

DND and the Canadian Forces (CF) employ strict control procedures over firearms inventories, from their acquisition through to disposal.

Q1. Why have these MERX postings been cancelled? What is happening with each of these projects?

A1. The DND Small Arms Modernization (SAM) Project Management Office (PMO) requested that Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) cancel both the GSP and the NCRR Price and Availability (P&A) requests on MERX as a result of questions, and requests for clarification, from industry. The feedback from industry brought the DND SAM PMO to re-evaluate its procurement strategy. The DND SAM PMO is now focusing efforts on clarifying the procurement strategy for the GSP and NCRR with the intent to facilitate future communication with industry.

The comments and observations received from industry in response to the P&A requests will be considered when the final requirements are written. The replacement of the GSP and NCRR remain a priority for DND. The next step of the project will be to obtain Preliminary Project Approval (PPA). No additional solicitations will be posted on MERX until after PPA is obtained and an approved procurement strategy is in place. PWGSC would be able to provide details on the procurement process. This is just like any other government purchase fvck up. Nothing new.
I just hope our guys end up getting the sh!t they want, not what some fvcking politicians think is best. But we all know how it ends up= the inevitable- Taxpayers fvcked again, and soldiers with massively overpriced garbage.lol
