I don't want to use a Chicom action if I can get a GI action. I want to use a 7-08 S/S barrel as I have a lot of 7-08 Match preped ammo. I want to make it a 1/2 MOA rifle if not better! There is a Springfield action with a HR barrel etc for $1k on EE. I don't need the barrrel or stock! Anybody out there that can sell an action? How about saving me some US connections to get a 7-08 SS MATCH barrel in Canada?

I have built XP-100 and 700 BDL that will do one hole groups at 100M. I need some help in getting a M14 to do at least 1/2 inch groups. I had a M14 National Match manual, but somehow lost it!

Anyody up to the challenge?

Regards,
Henry:cool:

I heard at the mall today that isle 3 at Wallmart has a sale on nija suites but only if you believe in unicorns!

Yes there are a lot of Sage out there but also a bunch of Troy. So the peanut gallery has no suggestion!

If I was a permament in the US, I could of gotten a Marine armourer to build one for me in a week! In the Great White North, well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Getting a 7mm-08 barrel ... In canada... For an M14 action? Not gonna happen any time soon. Talk to me in 6 months and I "might" be able to help you. The chinese receiver is your best bet but if that won't do, order an LRB receiver thru Prophet River or Questar.
I can build it for you, but no M1A/M14 armourer on the planet is going to garauntee you a 1/2MOA rifle.
It can be done... But it depends how deep the pockets are ;)

I've had a lot of M14 type rifles and only one - SA M1A 'Loaded' - was a consistent MOA rifle. I have several consistent 1/2 MOA rifles ( Sako TRG's and custom's) and one consistent sub-half-MOA ( custom F-Class single shot rig ) but no M14 out there will be a consistent 1/2 MOA.

I've just wrapped up another all usgi parts , krieger DMR barrel, norinco receiver and right now it's in a bare bones walnut g.I. Stock. Shootin consistant cloverleafs inside .75 of an inch. It's getting bedded into one of my custom stocks. Her owner is going to be extremely pleased.
Cost of this rifle, 3600.00
Doing the same build but on a MUCH more expensive LRB receiver would not be cost effective even if it shrank the group to .50"

Regardless, the road to achieving tack driver greatness in an m14 type rifle is a road of frustration and cash.... And sometimes, everything meshes and a fantastically accurate rifle is the product.

The armorers building the designated marksman or sniper variants, and most of the reputable US builders, have readily availlable sources of parts to mix match and tune until a particular rifle is a keeper. We don't have these options in canada.... So yes the road to accuracy costs cash. A match barrel and quality receiver are the building blocks to start with.
Match medium and heavy barrels shoot more consistant due to far less barrel whip, and stay more consistant as they heat up. Most of the 15 or so krieger builds I've done this year are 1 MOA or less according to owner's feedback. Still waitin on Giwolf to post up his LRB build and range results. Was a very pricey build, with all select high grade parts. Cost a mint and is a performer... We'll wait for his report and rifle build break down.

Great of you to share your observations. Yes, parts were plentiful back in 2001, 2002, and 2003 and that's when I was doing a few builds a year. No much anymore. They just dried up. Mixing and matching with USGI parts for a consistent sub-MOA M14 just tapered off!

In the end, I've told my buddies, you are better off buying an off the rack Savage F-Class TR M12 or FCP10 or Rem 700 5R if you want a tackdriver with no surprises. They still kept throwing money at me... ;)

I will look into a LRB receiver. I have some connections that I might be able to use to get a S/S match barrel. I am used to building benchrest rifles and IHMSA pistols that will easily do 1/2 MOA. All of my 7-08 brass has tuned primer holes and pockets as well as turned necks. I could not find anything about a LRP action at Prophet nor Questar!
M14 Doctor PM me, please.
Thanks,
Henry;)

After a statement like this you even can type the woods bellow?

The Sage EBR provides a stock that accurses 1's rifle. The Troy stock does nothing but change the path of the recoil from a downwards motion to a inline recoil. They both provide ample real esate for mounting 1's optic's. Then after that blatant WTF moment you want to make it in 7-08 chambering with a USGI barrel!?! Then you expect to get a rifle no mater what the conditions, ammo and other worldly environment variables there are out the expect to get no more than a half an inch or less out of an semi auto piston driven rifle.
WoW!
Then on top of that you call me the peanut gallery?
Ha!
Lets say you even get a LRB receiver and a heavy barrel kregier. Then you will either need a Sage or a JAE stock to slap it on. But before you can do that you will have to mill the be-jebus out of it just to get it to fit. Now you are going to have to find a trigger that the job done on it was done so fine that it would make baby kittens cry. Now you are still lacking the op-rod & op-rod guide that mic's out at less than 2 thou out of OEM spec's to cut down on the reverberations threw the cycling. Plus to boot you will now have to find a gas system that is so perfectly made that the piston mic's out perfectly in it that there is just enough play for it to move freely through out. Then once you have done all of this you will now need to source a great bolt witch is the easy part . Oh ya then we come to the small task of chambering it for the 7-08. Never mind the easy part of the of finding the right bullet, casing, powder, primer and shooting conditions to achieve this. Then and even then that you do achieve this you now state this remark?

Sorry I thought that I was the only 1 that had a pipe that was hot to the touch?
