New Chiappa Rhino 60DS 6" Target FIRES 357mag/38sp/9mm! -Trigger Fixed? ** w/ Pix

VERY cool gun!!!

The only "con" I have really heard about this gun is that it is way, wayyy complex...as if something was to happen/break you pretty much need to send it in for repairs, not an easy (at all) self fix.

Yes for sure, I've always thought of it as the price we pay for futuristic concepts that actually make it into production. This is why I stayed away the first couple of years after it's release, to wait for them to get shooter feedback and fix the glitches. When I saw they came out with a target model in what they are calling hard chrome I ate the bait hook line and sinker. They must have made improvements to the design by now, I can't see them wanting to have a repair shop full of smiths working on returns. If one can tinker with these to get them tuned perfect if they are not already, I would think said person would make one hell of a gunsmith!

So it shoots four calibers as the .38 and .357 should be good for the same size cylinder.

4 calibers?? WTF? lol. Mine was also listed as Nickel, I figured out the glitch when I went to the Chiappa site as you folks did.
http://www.chiappafirearms.com/product/2445

I have seen a number of pistol dealers list the wrong finish when advertising. For example.... I have seen a Jericho model listed as hard chrome and satin nickel, as well as SS. Do they really make all three?

Thanks if your serious about getting this one in hard chrome I would get a hold of Prophet River asap and see what they are doing with the second unit they bought. I doubt they will list it before it arrives which will be 4-8 weeks ( I said 6-8 weeks previous as I'm making payments on mine over 6 weeks ). And this thread lets the cat out of the bag regarding a second white 6" Rhino. It's the hard chrome white Rhino that is as rare in Canada as it's wild counterpart. Good luck!

I sent them an email so I'll wait and see what they say. I've always wanted a Mateba, but they're nearly non-existent in today's market. But these are designed by Ghisoni so they're the next best thing.
Happy shooting!

Just received an email from Clay over at Prophet River..... Turns out he just sold the second target white Rhino to a CGN'er based on this thread. So what say you Hypox!a? Are you the lucky new owner? Now to get back to Clay and work on the free T-shirt......

I guess I was on the wrong site , the main chiappa site does list it as hard chrome.
.357
.40
9x21

but will you be able to use standard 9mm? (9x19) so then is that an extra caliber? Chiappa being Italian, 9x19 is banned for Civ use if I remember correctly, so they use the Israelie 9x21... so that would be .38SPL, .357 MAG, 9x21 and 9x19..?

I actually just went to the Chiappa site and find this model number break down:
Ref. Description Caliber No. Shots Barrel Length Total Length Rifling Weight
340-077 Mod. RHINO .357 Mag 6 152 mm 266 mm 6 - 1x19" 0,94 kg
340-077 Mod. RHINO .357 Mag 6 6" 10.5" 6 - 1x19" 2.06 lbs
340-121 Mod. RHINO .40S&W 6 152 mm 266 mm 6 - 1x19" 0,94 kg
340-121 Mod. RHINO .40S&W 6 6" 10.5" 6 - 1x19" 2.06 lbs
340-137 Mod. RHINO 9X21 6 152 mm 266 mm 6 - 1x19" 0,94 kg
340-137 Mod. RHINO 9X21 6 6" 10.5" 6 - 1x19" 2.06 lbs

so there is a .357 model and a 9mm model... I cannot find one that indicates it does .357 and 9mm

I went and saw my friend today and investigated furthur on the 9mm compatibilty in the .357 version as mentioned here, he had no knowlage of this what so ever. There is nothing in the manual, nothing on the Chiappa website, and when you search in google there seems to be nothing more then confussed info. I did read that it was once posted on the factory sight but quickly remover without explanation. I cant find one thing actually stating that this gun can and will shoot 9mm from the .357 version, not to mention no accounts of someone actually shooting a 9mm from from the same gun. It is clear that Chiappa offers the gun in three version a .357/.38, a .40 and a 9mm, but no combo versions.

Also as mentioned above this is not a standard 9mm.

As for the moon clips they seen to be nothing moee then some form of speed loader, they are packaged with a casing remover so that kinda makes sense.

There are a few US broker sights selling this gun as a .357 and 9mm combo, unfortunatly that info is just in the titles with only the factory discription listed.

Please if anyone has more concrete info on this please let me know as we would lovebit if this gun was even more versitile then it already is, and allot cheaper to shoot. As for mow I don't think well try to shoot a round from this gun that isn't clearly stated as compatible fro the factory at this time :/.

Cheers,
Evan

This is becoming a bit of a brain teaser...... I guess I'll have to do more digging as well. I'll fire off another email to Chiappa and see if they respond. The ad on GB for mine is gone from the data base now, so going from memory the US retailer selling them stated that they fire 357/38/9mm, HOWEVER I don't honestly remember if it said 9X19 or simply 9mm. But he sure did state that it fire 9mm of some sort. He went on to state that "they achieve the various calibers by way of different moon clips for each caliber", and that "the gun comes with one of each to get you started". That's quoting darn close to what he said. Beyond that, I'm stumped. I took his comments at face value as I am no expert. Maybe if a few of us send emails in this regard to Chiappa one of us may get lucky and get a reply.

Oh, and he also said these three calibers were interchangeable in the "new 6" target model Rhino" if that helps.

Thats the US company I was talking about also GB, on all there adds for that gun it mentions it but only in the title.

All three moon clips are the exact same size with no differences what so ever, an nothing on them to indicating specific calibers.

It seems like at some point Chiappa might have made a mistake in some for of the advertizing and the public might have just ran with it with hopes thatbit might be true. Not to mention it's a great selling feature.

I really hope this is real and not just a pipe dream.

Really if it does shoot 9mm, the info that came with the gun should state it somewhere. Our does not can you check and see what your factory papers say?

I know in reloading if you're REALLY tight on projectiles you can sub 9mm into a .38SPL / .357 as it's only a .002" difference in diameter with the 9mm being .355 but it's not something that's recommended for sure.

That's great, although I'll be the guy at the range saying "back off get your own sandwich!". :) Kidding.... When I take it out to the Selkirk gun range anyone interested in testing it out is welcome to have at it.

please tell me that you like to shoot weekend mornings - LOL

Yes the new .357 chiappa white rhino comes with a convertible 9mm version.

Sorry I meant GB as in Gun Broker, in case you were referring to an actual seller. Is your friend's a 6" target? I only ask because it is entirely possible that Chiappa made some design changes as it listed as their "new" model. That is only speculation on my part, as info is surprisingly hard to find. I will check all of my paperwork when the gun arrives but that will be sometime yet.

Awesome find! Can someone scan the article and print it here or take a close up pic of the page that is legible? I don't subscribe to that mag. This should settle the debate.

Sure do!! You bring the coffee I'll bring the Rhino. I haven't even been to the Selkirk range yet. Purchased a membership there last year and work had me so busy I sold all of my restricteds as I wasn't using them and pumped the funds into a truck build to finish it. Renewed it again this year. Then last week I had some major issues with the truck while trying to pay off two guns with cash. Was a brutal week. The other pistol is a minty Tisas Zigana Sport satin chrome with the ported barrel and slide in 9mm. I'll be bringing both. Another odd ball design and a big boy also. I'll be glad when they both arrive and I take them out to the range.

Damn I was sitting in front of it this morning as well lol, should have thought to look though. Did it have a pic of the conversion piece, or wilderness do tou have a pic of your?
