Hi everyone,

I posted this question is the general forum not realizing there was a clay forum, sorry I’m new to forums (21 yrs of age)

“Over the past two years I’ve begun to get more and more into sporting clay shooting and I am now thinking it’s time to buy a proper clay gun. Until recently I’ve been shooting with a Benelli semi but I’m considering a O/U shotgun. I’m a smaller guy at 5’7” so I’ve found that berettas feel better in my hand over brownings. I’m the type of guy who prefers to measure twice and cut once.

With all that said I’ve narrowed down my choices from all the SP1,3 and 690,692 to a beretta 682 gold e with an adjustable comb (adjustable comb is a must for me).

I’m wondering if $4400 for a nearly new 682 gold e sporting is to much to pay? I’m aware a 692 used could be had for the same price but I’ve heard they could have major malfunctions. Your guys in put would be appreciated as it’s hard to gauge price. Gun broke shows sales of 3.5K-4K USD for 682 gold e’s since December 2021”

Thanks everyone

Thanks for your replay,
I’ve seen a couple on gun post for 3.5K and they’ve sold very fast within a couple days. However is one has the adjustable comb and 32 inch barrels so wasn’t sure if that was a hard to find configuration this driving the price up. Maybe I’ll ah e to wait a couple more weeks and see if the seller really wants to sell or not, he already came down 400$ in price. Is a consumen at a shop so it’s 4.4 with tax and commission fees

Barrel length and adjustable comb don't add $1000 in price. Adjustable combs can be installed with hardware included by any competent gunsmith for a couple hundred dollars and 32' bbls are very common on clays guns. Personally I'd draw the line at $3200 but that's just me......

Okay thanks for your reply, I’m new to this and have had a hard time knowing whether or not it’s overpriced. You’ve made it a lot clear

A 686 or any 682 are good solid options as well and you can pick them up in the $2000+ range. last summer a fellow trapshooter here in AB was selling a 686 Trap Combo in mint shape for $2800

Okay I’ll have to keep my eye out then, I’m still waiting to be approved for the Equipment Exchange forums :(. Any other cites I should check other than gun post and Canadian firearms while I wait?

Lots of guns generally for sale on Townpost and look at the links to the supporting vendors here. They often have lots available. Check Prophet River, the Gun Dealer, Ellwood Epps etc at the top of the page.

Okay thank you very much for the advice

I think Beretta is phasing out the 692 in favour the 694. I've shot one and it's quite nice. Best of luck in your search for your "last" clay gun. I've bought my last clay target gun several times. ;)

Haha I know what you mean, but I truly wish this to me one and done. Hence why I'm trying to find one with proven reliability and overall great reviews, the 692 just doesn't install those two haha

I picked up a Citori on ####### and parts for it here. I also got the semi-auto that I use for Skeet here. Elwood Epp and The Gun Dealer are also good sites to look at for used shotguns. Patience is the key when looking for your last gun. 🤣

The Gun dealer is 3 hours from me so it might be my best option but I really despise the 15% tax haha, although health care is nice I guess haha. Thanks for tip

First question, what are you currently shooting and what issues are you having with it? What are your goals for the new gun?

I’ve been shooting a Benelli semi with a 30” barrel. They only “issue” is that I feel the overall length to be too much as I’m only 5’7” so my wingspan isn’t that big. I’ve held some 28” barrel O/U at bass pro and found them to feel more “natural” if I can say that haha. I pretty much just want to give O/U a try and give myself the best chance to see if it’s right for me.

In the meantime before you get something else- try adding some weight to the buttock to move the balance rearward. If you take off the recoil pad there likely are some cavities you can insert some weight. Bringing the balance rear will make the gun feel more lively. Lead shot in some Ziplocks is my preferred option but many ways to skin that cat.
