Got back from the rv today and my Decot’s where waiting on the porch, little nerve wracking as they came a day early and spent the night out there. My goodness what a awesome feeling to be able to see clearly at distance, have progressives for everyday but can’t shoot with them, so been mucking about with Wileys safety glasses and such for two seasons.

Only have looked thru the Target Orange so far and it’s full on sun right now, the clarity, sharp definition and contrast are great, glad I went with the anti reflective, almost like they got the distance for my astigmatism better than my optician.

Hope to hit some 5 stand at the TX/LA border on Sunday when we return to the RV! Now for some proper, unobtrusive electronic hearing protection.

What’s the actual process to get set up with prescription clays glasses properly?
  • Did you go through a regular optometrist or a shooting-specific provider?
I have a set of Randolph RE Ranger Ranger XLW, but bought them in ‘09 when my eyes were good, so I’ll need to research if I can get the prescription lenses made for them.

Also curious what guys are realistically spending once it’s all said and done.

Thanks

Did you go with polycarbonate or trivate ?

Poly, Trivex is +$25 a lens set, everything adds up and I drew the line there.

Get a fresh test and prescription wrote, make SURE they include your PD number, then phone the folks at Decot, very easy to deal with. Ended up at just under 1K with all the bells and whistles, except Trivex, but remember that’s USD, but I have the good fortune to get my pay in USD.

Thanks for the reply. That’s a sweet setup! $1K sounds like where the budget should be when you consider just one pair of regular lenses and frames will run half that at minimum.

I’ll have to reach out to the folks for my RE Ranger’s to see if they are able to cut a set of prescription lenses. Maybe I can save frames instead of having to replace them.

Oh well, this is one of those hobbies where $1k doesn’t go far. 😉

I have dealt with Decot since the late 1980s and they are top notch! Not the cheapest, but awesome service.
If anyone is thinking of dealing with Decot and are in a bigger city, give Decot a call and ask if they have an optometrist in the area that is familiar with or deals in their products. Then you will know the glasses will be set up properly.

I had prescription lenses cut for my Ranger Edge glasses by Dr Nolt in Edmonton, but I since had laser surgery, and went back to plain lenses. The prescription lenses were quite thick, and actually caused me some distortion.

Just got mine , light purple for trap . I went with the trivet because I had talked with others and they said just a bit more clarity and harder to boot which should reduce the scratches and when spending that much, what is an extra 25.00

If anyone knows a lens technician in the Halton Region (GTA) that can cut prescriptions for shooting classes, I’d like to get some for my Rangers.
Thanks!
