My club is looking at acquiring one or two club pistols. We have a combined budget of approximately $1000. We are looking exclusively at 9mm and .22LR Semi-automatics. We want quality pistols with good track records and that will last many thousands of rounds with little maintenance beyond basic field stripping and cleaning. We have brainstormed some idea ourselves, but would like to know what your guys opinions are and what is available. We are very much open to quality used firearms as well. Thank you for your time!

My suggestions would be the following.
For a .22 pistol, A Ruger Mk 11 or 111
For a 9mm , a Glock 17.

Both pistols have proven track records of fantastic reliability.

Years ago, I used to work at a store that rented out guns. The Ruger Mk2 and 3s were good but I would suggest a S&W M-17 .22 revolver. Accurate, good trigger and a revolver! What can go wrong?
For the 9mm, DEFINITELY a Glock 17. We had a G17 for rent. The thing went thru 1000s of rds. Black sludge was coming out of it and it still fired!
This combo gives 2 reliable guns and a pistol/ revolver combo to boot.

Wow, talk about bad timing! I guess you didn't see Dlask's Grand Power blow out last week. $1,000 would have got you 2 .22's and a 9

I'd echo the Glock 17 and Browning Buck Mark suggestion.

Clubs have been using the Rugers for eons. No field stripping required. Just clean the barrel once a year or so.
I'd suggest you re-think any centre fire. Unless the club provides the ammo. Less possibility of some FNG bringing bad reloads.

My club owns about a dozen Ruger mark IIIs, and they are our work horses. THey perform admirably with the bare minimum of maintenance and cleaning. They are pretty much smooth bores by the time we replace them. Never had any complaints. We have different sets of grips for them as well for people who want to try ISSF style bullseye shooting.

Glock, meh, whatever. Great club gun. Cheap, popular, reliable. Not exciting, but you won't regret it either.

For .22 : Browning Buckmark or a Ruger 22/45 or a Ruger Mk III; GSG 1911 is also an option
For 9mm: CZ 75B; Girsan also seems to be popular

We tried the Buckmarks, and we found to be significantly higher maintenance than our Ruger mark IIIs. Can't say I'd recommend the CZ either, for the same reason. Club guns get abused, and guns that need TLC aren't suitable. YMMV

My club also insists on club purchased ammo as well. Two reasons, avoid abuse from guys who double charge, no charge their reloads which can damage the gun prematurely, and also, a small mark up in ammo covers the eventual replacement cost for the pistol, ensuring our rental fleet is sustainable long term.

Given the budget of a 1000 , I would suggest a couple of Rugers as well.....Rugers generally offer good quality at a decent price ; even then with only a 1000 dollar budget , you may be hard pressed to get two when you figure in tax......

Thank you guys for your suggestions. I for one am all for a Ruger MK series pistol and will be writing a proposal to the other execs supporting that route. We had a shoot last night, and my personal MKII (KMK678) was hugely popular. Our members make personal 9mm pistols available for our shoots, but I'm the only one who brings a .22!

Pot metal guns should be avoided as they will not last very long. Go with all steel guns like the Rugers or even good used High Standards.

For liability reasons only factory ammunition should be used.

Yeah... Our guests/members won't be using reloads. The only they use reloads is when someone brings an obscure gun, such my Ross or others. Our 9mm are primarily fed with BDX, AE and Wolf. We shoul look into getting some of that cheap aluminum stuff too.

Our club bought a trio of Rugers for club guns/ATT course guns. We have a Ruger single six 22 lr, Ruger GP100 357 mag and an SR9 in 9mm. I'm the lucky SOB who get to care for and clean them :( But so far they have been flawless and forgiving.
