Did anyone buy one of those new made Colt 'original' 1911's? With all the original roll marks and inspection stamps? For some reason I missed out on them when they came out last year (or year before) and now I want to get one.

i saw one, i think, down at proline shooters, it was a newly mfg. 1911 with the "US" marked grips etc. i was very tempted.

One a side note, i dont wish to start a new topic, might as well hijack this one.

what is fair market value for a shooter ww2 or prior 1911 or 1911-a1 etc. ?

Siggy, before you hijack the thread :p when did you see that Colt? yesterday or a year ago?

I have seen them for all over the board. I have a mismatched 1945 Rem Rand Ithaca I got for five sumthin.

If you saw one with "US" marked grips it was most likely a new Springfield 1911A-1 USGI copy. Too bad they didn't just put plain original type dark brown plastic checkered stocks. The USGI 1911/1911A-1's never had "US" on the grips...

As for the "new" Colt repro 1911's & 1911A-1's, I have never actually seen an example here in Canada. But I'd expect them to sell in the $1,200 area like the other "new" Colts.

Current fair value for a "shooter" 1911 or 1911A-1 is $450-$750 area depending on "overall condition" and "originality". That would include WWII USGI pistols that are "mix-masters" [i.e. the frame maker might be "Ithaca" and the slide was mfg by "Remington-Rand"]. This also includes "matching" pistols that have been "professionally restored" [i.e. refinished]. Sorry, your "original" Colt 1911A-1 USGI just isn't worth the big bucks if it has been refinished, no matter how well done it is, because big bucks are only paid for matching slide/frame pistols in 'original' condition. However, if a person is looking to get a period vintage 1911 pistol, you might pay a little bit more for a refinished example, if it has the correct proof marks/stamps, if it is from the "maker' you desire.

NAA....you're my hero.

Mainly because you have a NAA 1911. :bigHug:

Yeah, ever getting a NAA 1911 is just a pipe dream... I've got the 'handle' but no pistola... :(

Hell, I'd settle for a nice USGI 1911A1 mfg by Union Switch & Signal... or even an all matching original '41 - '43 Colt 1911A1 in any condition....

i saw that 1911 in january, spent a fair time looking at it.

if i recall, it may very well have been a springfield, but it surely did what it could to resemble an original config. 1911. sorry that i cannot be of greater help, if it was a k98k i could have told you much more

And. thank you very much for the price update, I have decided i can no longer go on without a 1911 in my collection.

I beleive Epps still has one of the Colt 1911 repops in stock. Comes with a repro military issue cardboard box, a repro military manual, two mags and everything wrapped up in brown paper.

I have seen the same pistol. It is a Springfield Armory USGI. I was scoping it out asking myself how I could explain this one to the wife after I bought a TRP Operator!

Eos, you're the man, thanks. Actually I shouldn't be happy with you now....its gonna mean another few months with no food on the table.
