New Cooper Magnum Action Cal's announced...

I had gathered the pieces to have a 7mm rem mag custom built except for the stiller action. Ive decided to wait until Cooper comes out in stainless. The gun would shoot better than me anyway so why go through the bother of a custom job?. IF more companies sold 7mm STW Id get one of those instead.
Just received word from Cooper releasing the initial calibers for the new M56 action. Looks like the rifles will start a few hundred more than the M52's though:

Here are the calibers that we will be doing

257 weatherby

264 winchester

270 weatherby

7mm Remington

7mm weatherby

7mm STW

300 H & H

308 norma

300 winchester

300 weatherby

8mm Remington

338 winchester

340 weatherby

There are a few really interesting cartridges there. Particularly the 8mm Rem Mag. One of the many rifles I wish I never sold. I can't wait to see the specs. If they have an Excaliber come out at around 7.5lbs for that, uh-oh.

I just received the suggested retail prices for the new Model 56,and they are substantially more than the Model 52,and Model 54.

Style Classic Excalibur∗ Jackson Game Jackson Hunter (synthetic)∗
Code CL EXC JGR JHR
MSRP $2795 $2895 $2995 $2795

There is no doubt that those prices will cost them sales.I can't see the Model 56 costing much more to make than the 52 or 54,so I really don't understand those prices.

Thats exactly my opinion on the Matter.WHEN cooper lower's there prices on the M56 I will consider buying one.until then.....back to the Drawing Board Elk11.

I'll be chatting with the folks at Cooper when I'm at shot this week about this. I was hoping they would come in at or near the other repeating CF actions. I may not inventory these; just take special orders. My prices for these will hopefully, be a little lower than the US retail but if the $ drops or if I inventory? :(

I agree with everyone else they are pricing themselves out too high. For $3000 plux tax I could have a really, really nice custom made rifle made to my exact specs. I can't imagine the price of the new stainless actions they will be putting out in the future...$3500???

Cheers!!

Sounds like their new deal with the Bestofthewest has left Cooper with an impression of their prospective clientele. BOTW is pricing their new Cooper magnum rifle 'package' at well over $6000. Too bad as one of the things that Cooper had going for them (bang for the buck) may be no longer.
