Lightweight rifle + heavyweight scope =

Agreed... I have a 50mm Zeiss ..... and there is no way I would plunk that on this rifle! Plus it would just look weird.

I knew Bushnell made scopes, but I did not think anyone bought them!

Could be some leg-pulling going on;)

Seen one in the EE for sale, thought it was a good deal on a good scope.Probably still tere if interested.Think it was priced at 80.00.I never put whipped cream on a mud pie.

Leupold VX-3L 4.5-14x50mm with the CDS system. I have 2 different rifles set up with these scopes and they are excellent.
The CDS system works very well, I was shooting my 280 Remington out to 680 yards last fall (targets) and the dial was bang on.

I'm thinking about that CDS system, but more in a 3x9 range. (3x10?)
And in 40mm objective, not 50. Otherwise I'd put my 3.5x10x50 Zeiss R600 on. Its too big for this rifle.

While I don't have experience with the CDS leupolds, I do use my 30-06 similarly to what you have planned for you Cooper. I primarily hunt with it but every now and then it joins my 308 when shooting steel at long range.

Originally I was leaning towards a quality fixed power in the 4x or 6x range but ended up mounting a Nightforce 2.5-10x24. I couldn't be happier with that decision. The scope is rugged, optics are excellent, as is light transmission at dawn and dusk and when it comes time to shoot at steel the turrets work as advertised.

Edited to add: My 30-06 is also a lightweight, a Kimber Montana, so I did give consideration to scope size and weight before deciding on the NF. It compliments the rifle nicely.
