new coyote gun

I shoot lots of coyotes & use or have used many calibers. (22rf-12ga) Yesterday I got a young dog at aprox. 75yd. Bang flop not even a quiver. I've had this gun for years but never shot a coyote with it. The gun was my bush gun, a Ruger # 3 w/ 300 gr win ammo 45-70. It may kill at both ends but it shoots well & is always fun to shoot. I got one a couple weeks ago with my 1895GG using 405gr RemSP's over 46grs of IMR 3031. I rolled him with the fourth shot as he ran across a sand bar

Isn't that gun a little too large for Yotes? are you keeping the fur?

fur prices are in the dumpster. I am not saving the hides this year. The hole is not that bad as it is low vel. I've stiched up much larger holes from standerd coyote cal. I use a 243 for the most part. The fact I was useing the 45-70 was the point, not the shell that comes to mind for preditor huntiing. AJ

I'm going to use my Ruger #1 45/70 exactly as you. Here, deer pops. are WAY down but coyotes are way up. Fur prices are low, bad news for critter management.
