New Coyote Hunter Here...

I am looking at a .223. Don't want to add another caliber to the fold, as I am already holding a AR, .223 is the way I am leaning.

Now, just to pick out a nice new rifle. I have been researching Savages' Axis, and XP 10 line...

I'm running a .223 savage 11, works great..... Just wish I could find some coyotes, I'm packing it in now. I think coyotes are getting into the pregnant stage and pelts are going to start getting rough and thinned out.

But on the second day I asked the instructor for clarification on this passage. i.e. does the geographical clause apply to the muzzle loading exception, or does it apply to the whole sentence? If it's for the whole sentence, then you're allowed as long as you're not in one of those locations. He couldn't answer the questions.

The geographical clause applies to the whole sentence.

Im more for preditor management then a fur pelt. I'm in area 3 and 4. I can use my .308, .303 or my 762x39 if I want to hunt wolves or coyotes. Pending of course during the big game season I'm still in Possesion of a big game seal. Sadly I probably will have at least one unfilled big game seal. Damn I need to get a moose.

I agree wholeheartedly, but if he is in the .275 or smaller area of southern ON he cannot legally use a .270 WIN, as it comes in at .277!

The law states "caliber KNOWN as 275 or smaller. Even though the .270 uses a .277" projectile, the CALIBER is still .270 as indicated on the barrel. .270 is the largest caliber you may use for small game in the caliber restriction zones in Southern Ontario. I bought my 270 for this exact reason (although I now use a .223 for small game)

Just curious a lot of people suggest a 270, but why not 270 WSM? They are both very versitale calibers. My in laws use 270 and 270wsm for moose. But they prefer a 22-250 for wolves. My father in law has downed many wolves with his 22-250.

While the rest of the thread banters about cartridge choice, I understand you would prefer to go .223. ;) Yeah, that'll work just fine. Lots of options out there.

Oh I must have missed that post lol. Sorry to add to the calibre debate. I guess you're in the same boat I am in a way. Already own one caliber and don't want to "add another caliber to the fold". In my case .308 instead of 223. Good luck to you.
