Rem 700 Varmint - less SPS
Well, I hate to buck the trend, but I owe many a one-shot 'yote kill to my Remington. Yup, heavy barrel is a pain, and yup, don't need one for one shot kills. BUT...That thing LOVES 50 and 40 gr. v-max's. It is an unbelievable tack driver. I put a Hogue stock on it to truly float the barrel on hot days.
I call in my yote's and use shooting sticks or a bipod. Now if yote's were all you were shooting with it, then I would have to agree with most of the previous posts. My son bought a T3 - .223 for the same reasons as stated above. When we go gopher shooting, or paper shooting at the range, his quickly heating barrel gives him fits. Not only with his grouping, but the time to cool down. Me, I keep on shooting without as much of a worry.
My gophers ratio are 2 to his one. I also had a Ruger Target. The barrel is NOT heavy throughout. I cleaned it one day and noticed how thin it was just before the gas port, then it got really thick and heavy. My wife wanted another so I bought a brand new ranch...it out shoots the old target in some respects, but even still past 150 yards it gets a little wide.
I'll never get rid of my Remy. I also own a Weatherby in .243, and ya...it is good too!
