New CZ 75B Problem

I bought a new CZ 75B before Christmas this year and I've only had it out shooting twice, putting about 250 rounds through it so far. This is my first pistol and while I'm not new to long guns, I'm a rookie with handguns.

The first time I had it out it had what I thought were two mis-fires, but afterwards discovered that the hammer was only falling to "half ####" position on occasion. I cleaned the pistol when I first got it and after the first time I shot it and the problem seemed to go away (I have been dry firing it with snap caps). The second time I used it I had the same problem happen again, only more frequently. I'm not sure if this really has anything to do with it, but when it doesn't fire, if I re-#### it and put the safety on and then back off, it usually shoots (but not all the time.) :confused:

Does anyone have any idea of what might cause this? I posted a message about this when it first happened and someone suggested posting my question on the CZ board, but for some reason I can't register there. As I mentioned, I'm new to handguns, and I'm wondering if this has something to do with the safety system (not sure if there is some sort of hammer block involved)?

Since the pistol is practically new, I'm not sure what I should do. Take it to a gunsmith, or should I go back and talk to the store that I bought it at?

Any advise would be appreciated!

Ive had problems with mine not firing as well but what I found was the ammo was the problem, using regular 9mm ammo was fine, but when I used IVI ammo the primers sometimes need a second strike to fire, as for it only falling to half #### thats weird I would agree with Big JD take it back to your dealer.
 
You may need to deep clean it and re-oil/grease with cold weather (silicon) lubricant if you're shooting in cold weather. Mine (fairly new) has to heat up to stop stovepiping - once the action's hot away it goes. I know I can change that by cleaning out the action and relubing, just haven't bothered.

This does't sound like an ammo problem.
 
I wouldn't mess around... take it back to the dealer. If they are a reputable dealer they should offer you a replacement.

Where did you buy it?

I bought it at Wholesale Sports here in Calgary. I'm going to go up and talk to them and see what they say.... I assume that I'll have to get a temp ATT to bring it back to them.
 
Is your elbow locked when firing? Some guns need the resistance provided by your solid forearm to fully cycle and return to battery..If the problem persists even with your elbow/wrist locked..take it back to the dealer without messing with it..Yes you'll need an ATT to take it to the dealer.
 
yeah, I store my guns in an unheated vault so they are subject to extreme temperature variations, and I've never had that happen... talk to the dealer, this is really strange...

There are good gunsmiths who would take a look at it, but first check with where you got it, they might be able to fix/replace it for free.
 
Scott, this is a common problem with NZ85 Norincos and not nearly as common with "real" CZ's, but can be traced to the linkage controlling the firing pin safety.

The little lifter needs the trigger pulled all the way to the rear in order to lift the gizmo (technical talk here :) that lets the firing pin actually go freely forward. With assembly problems or wear and tear, the trigger releases the sear before the firing pin block is released. The result is that the firing pin either stays locked to the rear, or rubs hard on the way by, causing a really weak primer hit.

Try shooting off a mag by jerking hard on the trigger (yeah, I know...). Then try a magful fired by VERY slowly squeezing the trigger.

If I'm right, It'll work great if you really yank the trigger to the rear :)

Anyways, it needs to be looked at by a pistolsmith familiar with CZ's and their clones. I don't suspect Wholesale Sports has one of those, but it needs to go back to them so they can get it back to CZ (or one of us used to working on them :)

Thanks for all the responses guys. I ended up taking it back to the store I bought it at and they determined that the pistol was in fact defective. They've agreed to exchange it, but are waiting for more stock to come in. So I patiently wait....
