New Deer rifle

A Ruger Compact in .308 would be perfect. Stainless Laminated looks pretty cool but they also make it in a blued and walnut model. I think your choice of scopes is a bit too much for close cover. I would highly recommend going with a Leupold Vari-X II in a 1 x 4 or a Vari-X III in a 1.5 x 5 with heavy Duplex Cross Hairs. I have the 1.75 x 6 Vari-X III and it is a nice scope but it's still too powerful to hit a running deer at 15 yards in the the thick stuff.

I shot a buck last year at 250 yards on 4 power and I shot a bull moose this year at 160 yards on 4 power, both with my .35 Whelen which is topped with the 1 x 4 Leupy.

If you are interested I just purchased a Sako 75 Finnlight in .260 from Ellwood Epps it meets all your requirements its light 6 1/4 lbs, synthetic stock with inserts, Stailess fluted 21 " barrel, 5 round clip magazine, comes with accuracy guarantee and can get service in Canada which is what change my mind over the Kimber 84M as some are good and some have problems and you have to send it off to the US for any repairs and that would be a nightmare. The .260 calibre is great with good velocity and great sectional density for the each bullet grain. It might be a problem if you do not handload. The has been reduced down to 1049.00 from 1589.00 at Epps and when I piced it up they advised me he has 9 more, but they probably will go fast.
 
I would suggest what ever scope you preffer that has an illuminated reticle. I just got the bushnell elite 4200 in a 2.5X10-50mm this year. I was surprised as hell to see how much faster you can put the red dot on the vitals. Shot him broadside threw the lungs. He started to run into the bush and I shot him in the front shoulders running. Real quick target acquisition.
 
I love the Bushnell Elite 4200 series scopes, the only problem I have with them is that they are heavy.

I am not interested in synthetic stocked rifles.And the Kimber is at least 1/2 lb lighter than the Sako with a Walnut stock.

It doesn't have to be the 4200. Find something clear, lite, and make sure it has an illuminated reticle. Weight wasn't a factor for me. I put the 4200 on a browning m-1000 eclipse.
 
You can also throw less money on the rifle and buy a better scope than the elite 4200.

The Tikka T3 hunter or stainless laminate are at the far end 6 pounds. I never heard a bad shooting T3. I suspect it will outshoot the Kimber and maybe the Sako. Mine is a Lite SS and is weighting 6 3/16.

The leupold VX-3 2x8x36mm is quick handling, better quality and better in every dept than the elite.

For about 1400$ + taxes you have a quick deadly combo.

Hello there. I have a Tikka Master Trapper 695 rifle chambered in 6.5 * 55. Is a great hunting rifle topped with a M8 Leupold 4 power scope. Nice lightweight rifle. I would surmise that the T3 Hunter wood stock 308 would be a good bet for your needs. Regards
 
Thanks for all your input. Think I'll go with the Kimber. Still undecided on the scope.
